Tile in a bathroom

Is there any true benefit to having tiling go up the walls (aside from the shower area)? I hate the look (and its probably cheaper not to), but is there a reason to it that I should do it?

Tile in a bathroom

I did not do tile anywhere expect the tub/shower area and then I have a tile base and floor. Unless you expect it to be a very wet room....lots of kids makign a huge mess then I wouldn't worry about it.

I have on DS and he splashes a ton in the tub but we never have water all over.

I hate the tile everywhere look.

Re: Tile in a bathroom

I'm not a big fan of tile up the wall and I don't know why it's done. My downstairs bath has it but thats just because the tile was in too good of shape to take down when we bought the house. So I accept it lol

Upstairs bath needs a reno and when we do it, the tile will only be in the shower. I want beadboard around the rest

Re: Tile in a bathroom

i agree!! i hate tiles on the walls, DH likes it bc he says its "classier," so we did it in the last house. We prob wont in the new one, i just think its tacky looking or too much or something

Re: Tile in a bathroom

Tiling halfway up the wall adds visual interest and breaks up the solid walls, since there usually isn't furniture on the walls like in parts of the house, especially in a small bathroom. As my husband says, it can look cell-like if it is all paint or all tile. You can avoid this if you have things on the wall though.

We have beadboard halfway up now, but it isn't holding up well with the moisture, so we will probably tile halfway.

we will only be tiling half way up in our bathrooms. I hate tile all the way up. People say it is better with the moisture.

Re: Tile in a bathroom

So funny, I'm getting ready to remodel my bathrooms. I currently have floor to ceiling 4X4 tile on the walls and in the shower and hate it which is pushing me to only have painted walls. My contractor is pushing for a half wall of tile. I think what gets me overwhelmed is the different types of tile that are needed. (floor, walls, shower, shower floor, backsplash) I feel like there will be too many decisions to make!
