Did anyone give half formula half breastmilk?? If so, I have a question
I've been giving half and half since day one. I pump and mix it with formula.
He's had three instances of terrible gas pain..like crippling pain for hours on end and its followed by a nasty liquid green poop...it stinks worse than anything and I actually cried today along with him because I felt bad he was in so much pain. Now he is happy and sleeping.
This is the third time this has happened. I'll have a week of normal yellow seedy poop and then this happens out of nowhere. I'm not eating anything different and from everything i've read about breastmilk, if it were an allergy there would most likely be mucus or blood?! Maybe its the formula?? But if it were, wouldn't there be constant problems??
I'm at my wits end. I almost stopped pumping today because I'm convinced its the breastmilk but then realized I was being silly. I'm going to cut down on dairy and see what happens. I called my doctor and will see what she says but just thought I'd ask if anyone has been through this and what ended up being the problems? TIA!

You can definitely see if it's the formula..I did this and luckily didn't have to change formulas but you can also see if you've been eating gassy foods like broccoli, etc....we also tried Mylicon drops and those worked as well..good luck!

Re: Did anyone give half formula half breastmilk?? If so, I have a question
I never mixed with formula but I know dd would have green poo if she got too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk (sp?). Foremilk comes first and is more sugary and hindmilk comes later and has more fat. Do you continue to pump after you seem empty? Hindmilk comes a little later. If I were in a rush sometimes I would stop pumping as soon as I had enough rather than using the usual amount of time I took for each session and that's when I would get too much foremilk. Obviously I'm no expert and an lc or kellymom would have a lot more info (and probably much easier to understand). Good luck!

Thx!
I pump the same amount of time each session..15 minutes (using a double pump). I pump until it basically stops..the color looks normal , I don't think theres too more foremilk...and this green gassy thing occurs only once every 10 days or so, the rest of the time he's fine and the poop is fine. SO weird. I wish I knew!! thanks for the info :)

I dont think its formilk hind milk. I'd call the doc, but I honestly think if it's once every 10 days, it's normal. Also, completely unrelated, if you're pumping, you can play arond with the let down phases to create more frequent and faster let downs, and pump for 3-5 minutes after the milk has stopped in order to stimulate production.
