Closing in 2 days- what to do
We have a closing date scheduled for Tuesday. Our walk through is tomorrow (actually today since it's after midnight). What else should I do besides call the utility companies to switch the bills to my name?
Thanks!

Closing in 2 days- what to do
Dont forget: Water Cable i Phone and internet Power Oil/gas
On the walk through: -OPEN all the appliances. We didnt open the microwave. That was a $700 mistake. They had broken the handle and glued it back. -Run the water -If there is a rag in a sink, move the rag. We didnt and realized AFTER that the rag was covering a crack. - Look in the ceilings of all the closets. We had a small stain on walk through. One year later it was raining in the closet. -Make a note of the appliances. My neighbor had a sub zero that was supposed to be there. When he took the house the asshates took the sub and replaced it with a broken peice of shit. AND broke the cooktop!
Look. You probably wont have any problems. This way you can look for stuff we missed.

Definitely inspect every nook and cranny during the walkthrough!! Make sure you've got enough money in checking for all the closing statements. I didn't call the utilities until after we had closed (although I had scheduled w/Cablevision to install after we moved...they have excellent moving retention deals!). Other than that, start exercising your hand so you don't get a cramp signing your name 10 billion times ;)

Check that all the windows open and close- We did not do this and it turns out that several of our windows do not open! Stupid mistake and not much we could do after closing. Also check all light switches, etc. After moving into our house DH and I realized the door bell was broken. Make sure that any conditions in your contract about appliances or fixtures that the sellers are leaving behind are met.

We missed things on our walk through also - we ahd agreed seller was going to take 2 light fixtures (entry hall and diing room) - she took those as well as several others (kitchen, 1/2 bath and upstairs hallway) that we didn't notice until after we moved in. She obviously broke the front door handle and it was GLUED back on. We missed those things and wound up fighting about the escrow $$ afterwards
For the day you move in (or start to do work), make sure you have cleaning supplies and toilet paper

Re: Closing in 2 days- what to do
These are all really good suggestions and I wouldn't have thought of a lot of these. We're closing and doing a walk through soon too and these are helpful. I would definitely make sure that any items the sellers are responsible for have been taken care of.
