If you did not CIO, when did your LO fall asleep on their own?

DS is almost 16 weeks and seems like he is lightyears away from me putting him down "drowsy but awake" and him falling asleep on his own. I currently nurse/rock him into a deep sleep to go down and want to break the habit but want to wait to CIO.

When did your LO do this naturally?

consistently not until 8-9m. i rocked or nursed her to sleep mostly. we also kept her in the RNP until 8m. we switched to crib and had no issues, and about a week after switching i was out and DH put her to bed. he said he let her cry about 5 minutes. i was so mad. but the next night i tried it and it was 1 minute - if that. after that its been no more than 30 seconds and she is 2 now! sometimes she plays and doesnt go to sleep immediately, but she hardly ever really cries. i suppose i got (knock on many many pieces of wood) lucky, but i doubt ii ever could have done real CIO.

grace is just beginning to now - she is almost 7 months. I give her a last bottle at 630 and we rock a bit then into the crib awake. she falls asleep within 20 mins or so.

of course she rolls all over the crib, whines a bit, but for the most part falls asleep without us having to go back in.

Check out the bookHealthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child it did wonders for my first, and I just bought it again for my second (I lost it in between kids!). It was a life saver for me and really gave me insight on how children should sleep. You can alter the advice to suit your needs and your child. Good luck!

LO used to nurse or take the bottle to fall asleep a lot. Pretty much just after he turned 1, we put on sesame street for him and rubbed his head until he gets sleepy, then we put him in his crib and he just goes to sleep on his own. We didn't do anything to stop him from falling asleep w a bottle, he just grew out of it. I still offer him milk at night before bed but he rarely even wants it. It just happened overnight!

DD was right around 1. Ever since then she's gone to bed after a story and song and STTN. She's now 2.5 and still no issues.

I BF and rocked DD1 to sleep until 9 months when SHE decided she didn't want to be rocked anymore. She always fell asleep within 5 minutes after being put in her crib.

I plan to do the same with DD2 (who is 2months), I like spending that time at night holding her anyway.

18 months. I put him in his crib and I lay on the floor of his room until he falls asleep..usually about 10 mins. He wakes up about 5 or 6 and I then bring him into our bed for snuggles and extra sleep when we can!

DD did this around 8 weeks for naps and probably about 12 weeks for bedtime. She goes through phases where she doesn't go down as easily (I've been posting about having a really hard time right now) but typically after a week or so she goes back to her normal routine. She's never been good at STTN consistently but putting her down to sleep has always been easy at least.

We co sleep with lo. we would give cradle her or have her sleep next to us and sometimes she falls asleep on her own. other times she is still active and will walk around and fall on the bed numerous times and then just knock out on her own. This started happening when she was about 9 months old. She sleeps about 12 hours

I said 6 months but we co slept. So she was never 'alone' i had a habit of putting my hand on her belly to feel her breathe and to settle her 'kicks'

She HATED being swaddled but the kicks would keep her awake.

We used a blanket (sinners I know) and she slept in a snuggle nest in our bed between us. Really she went to sleep on her own around 2m of age. She ALWAYS slept with something touching me or me touching her.

I have photos of her during my maternity leave with her passed out on the couch with a leg up against my thigh. I went back to work at 15w so before or around then is my best guess.

I'm steadfastedly against CIO for sleep. I spent too many nights in my life crying myself to sleep and its something I'll never do to my child. I'm sure she'll have enough tough nights on her own.

DD - a few months old, don't remember specifically. We made the mistake of letting her fall asleep on our shoulder then putting her down to bed so it took her a little extra time to do it on her own. She was definitely putting herself to sleep a few months before her first birthday though.

DS - 2 months old exactly.
