Aruba is booked! Need restaurant recommendations

Our friends all convinced us to skip all-inclusive and book the Radison. So DH will be spending a long weekend fr our 9th anniversary. I'm looking for restaurant recommendations in the area, preferably walkable. I would be ok with cabbing it for a really special dinner, but we probably won't want to do that every night since we're only there for 3 nights. I'm looking for both casual and nicer since we will probably go out for lunch and dinner every day. Any cool nightlife suggestions would be appreciated too.

Madame Jannette's HANDS DOWN! Best meal and most romantic setting I've ever been in!

Some will say eating on the beach but I hate getting bit by bugs, esp. sand flies

Agree with this - Madame Janettes! But we did love Flying Fishbone - where your table is in the water and you watch the sunset as you eat (make a reservation for the right time). We didn't have a problem with bugs at all

Also loved Mirandi (sp?)

For three nights I prob wouldn't leave the high rise strip...there is soooo many restaurants within walking distance

Azzuros
Gianni's
Daniels
Aqua grill

Ruth's Chris
Simply fish
Both in the Marriott

Smokey joes
Casa tua
Casual fun

Are just some I thought of with many more on that strip

El gaucho is great but would be bus or cab

Flying Fishbone is a far cab ride, but so very romantic when you are there for sunset, sit on the beach, toes in the sand.

DH and I love Aqua Grilll.
El Gaucho (also a cab ride, not too far) has the best sangria.

I haven't been there in a few years but, DH and I really enjoyed Gasparito last time we went.

The first time we went we also liked the Sunset Grill at the Radisson but, didn't enjoy it as much the next time we went.

The Radisson is in a great location and I agree with your friend for not wanting to do an all inclusive there.

Re: Aruba is booked! Need restaurant recommendations

Pretty much what everyone else said. Sooo many great places to eat.
We love Sunset Grill at Radisson as well. I think that's pretty romantic.
Last time we went to Madam Janette's we met with friends who were going to be there as well, drank too much (my boys were staying in my IL's time share that night) and wound up taking their cool beer glasses with us. Chat Icon
We still have them... We just kept drinking so left and got a taxi still holding them. Woops!

I love any place you can pretty much eat outside. You're on vacation so enjoy being out as much as possible.

Oh, we also loved the Sopranos piano bar after dinner. Great music and usually a great crowd of singing and drinking.
Have fun!

El gaucho hands down if you enjoy a good steak! I wasn't impressed with flying fishbone... Yes, it's really cool to eat out on the sand and watch the sunset but I didn't think the food was worth the price tag

Re: Aruba is booked! Need restaurant recommendations

Oh and do yourself a favor and just rent a car.... They were pretty inexpensive as opposed to cab rides everywhere. And we got to venture up and down the island without going broke. You HAVE to see baby beach at the east end and the lighthouse and the west end and those cab rides are going to be $$$$

I appreciate the suggestion, but to be honest, I know we aren't going anywhere. It's such a treat to get away for a couple of nights without the kids that I know we are not going to want to run around exploring. It's just not us. We like to just sit on the beach and relax.Chat Icon

These are our favorites (we go every year!):

Madame Jeanettes (#1!!!!)
Yamanja
Chalet Suisse
Gianni's
Gasparito (local food, my parent's really love it, but not for everyone)
Papiamento

I personally think it is a complete waste to rent a car there unless you plan on driving around the island. The cab rides to dinner are much less than a car rental would be. We have been going every year forever and have never rented a car.

You are in a good section where everything is in walking distance. Once they built the mall there with new stores and restaurants I haven't gotten into town in years.

We came back yesterday and you do not need a car, especially from Radisson. You have some great places right outside your hotel. If you walk to the left and just keep walking you hit some more places.

You only need a cab to go downtown and I really don't think you need to do that.
Texas Di Brazil is a Brazilian steak house which was very good, Fishes and more was really good local seafood. Not romantic but good food. Simply Fish I think is at the Marriott Resort which you can walk to also, a long walk but not worth a cab ride.

if you want romantic, check out Marandi. I have recommended to several friends, and it has not disappointed anyone. Try to get there before sunset.

For a short period of time - you are better off just cabbing it. It's a long wait at the rental car shack - we did rent the couple of times we went and barely used it.

Pinchos! It was on a dock on the water. Beautiful at sunset. It was also a location on the Bachelor!
