IVF and estrogen
Hi everyone! I was wondering if any ladies had to take estrogen while doing the IVF cycle? When you read on line, it talks about cancer risks. Any input or advice would be really appreciated. It sounds like I won't have a choice, but wanted to hear from other ladies who did it? Doc said that its not a major concern. Thanks...

IVF and estrogen
many IVF cycles require estrogen. even without supplemental estrogen your own estrogen will naturally rise due to the amount of eggs your body produces. for example - mine was like 6000. a normal e2 level in an ovulating women is like 200-600. many cancers, like some forms of breast cancer, are hormonally (estrogen in particular) driven so the higher the hormone levels the more the cancer can grow and spread. is it a risk? sure. but are there cancer risks involved in many of the things we do on a normal basis (trying breathing in the air in NYC for a few hours a day)? sure. you just have to look at it like that. its a necessary evil for IVF. good luck!

Re: IVF and estrogen
I know that you are very right. It was just an unsettling feeling to see that there could be a connection to cancer. The benefits totally out way the risks.

Re: IVF and estrogen
For my most recent IVF cycle that got me pregnant this time (I'm due this week)I produced a good number of eggs and my estrogen never broke 1800.
