BTDT in vitro moms?
For those who have had in vitro, can anyone give me a quick summary about what it is like/entails. I have a family member dealing with low sperm count and will now be doing in vitro to try and get pregnant. Since the trouble is due to the male-- Is it the same process if it was due to the woman having difficulties or are there multiple/different in vitro scenarios? I'm clueless and would like some information. Thank you.

BTDT in vitro moms?
In so so simple terms and I am leaving a lot out!.....
Well, if they are going straight to IVF she would be doing the same thing as any couple facing fertility issues. Sometimes, the RE (reproductive endocrinologist) will do an IUI where they will monitor her during her cycle and then take her DH's sperm and use a catheter to place it in the correct spot. With IVF, she will be placed on numerous drugs. They will monitor her. At the right time she will have an ER (a surgical retrieval to get the follicles that have been growing with the meds, the numbers vary) The RE will check to see how many follicles are mature. Then the lab will either let the mature eggs mingle with the eggs or in her case they will probably do ICSI where they inject the best sperm into her eggs. Then they will let them grow for about 3-5 days where she should, if all goes well have the embryos transferred back into her uterus. Then they wait 9-11 days to see the BFP! Praying for them! If he/she has any questions my DH and I are more then willing to chat we were in the same situation and have a DD now!

IVF is the same if they are dealing with male or female infertility. The only real difference is they might do ICSI where the lab chooses an individual sperm and injects it directly into an egg to ensure fertilization, rather than just putting them all in the same petri dish and letting it happen "naturally."

BTDT in vitro moms?
A few girls do "IVF" journals on the Infertility Board. If you do a search under my name, you can find mine from 2011. It has a lot of detail. If your family member has any specific questions, please FM me. We dealt with male infertility also.
Best of luck to them.
