Big kids playing in area for little kids

I don't know if this is a vent or what but here I go.

I admit that I'm not really "good" at taking my daughter to the park in the fact that I don't really know how to deal with other people's kids when they should be doing it. My daughter is 2 and plays in the area that is designated for kids 2-5 and I am so flipping sick of kids who are way too old to be in that area jumping all over the place, yelling, and pushing. The little kids are just learning how to play, climb, and socialize and these big kids are intimidating and rough. The worst part is that their mothers sit there chatting with each other or totally checked out and playing with their phones.

Basically, if kids are too big and too old to be in an area and they are intimidating to the kids that belong there, parents need to do the right thing and step in. Vent over.

I always had to follow my little ones to keep them from getting hurt by the older kids. It's annoying , but now my kids are 3&4 and I can finally step away a Little bit. Gets easier as they get older. The parents of the older kids just chill because they can, it seems to be that way at every park we go to.

I experience this ALL THE TIME and it drives me crazy. If your child is 9 years old, he/she should NOT be playing tag with their friends on the jungle gym, slide, etc. meant for toddlers.

I don't care if their parents don't want to pay attention to them, but at least have the courtesy to ignore them when they're on the playground suited for other kids their age.

Unlike you though, I have NO problem telling those kids to get off the merry go round, slide, etc. when my daughter wants to go on them. If they're playing on them properly, I leave them alone, but if they're doing something that can hurt my child--no way.

I agree... and often go to a different, quieter playground for the lack of kids.

I JUST went through this for the first time today. DD was playing in an area designated for toddlers. 8-10 year olds were running all over and knocked her down twice. I just picked her up and walked out.

Ugh I hate it too! My 1 & 3 year old have gotten knocked over numerous times! I don't get some parents. I am always telling my 3 year old to watch out for smaller kids yet there always much older kids sometimes even teenagers who rough house on the toddler playground.

This past weekend dh told a bunch of teenagers that they needed to watch out for the little kids and than they started in with their filthy language. We ended up leaving!


ETA I also can't stand when mothers of toddlers don't watch their little kids in park on the playground. I follow my kids especially my little one!

This is a big reason why I rarely take my DS to the playground anymore. It's just not worth the aggravation, especially at seven months PG.

It aggrivates me to no end. I have already had an altercation with a parent. Funny she had no issue with her kid nearly injuring little kids but she had an issue with me telling him perhaps he should go roughough with kids his own age.
