Re: Inducing Labor may increase risk of autism
I do think that this story is silly and is more bent on inducing fear into new moms then being helpful, however I am a strong believer in letting babies cook till they are ready. Not only to avoid delivery complications/unnecessary interventions but to avoid health complications with baby as well. Massachusetts (where I live) no longer allows any type of elective induction/section prior to 39 weeks. For those interested in the the topic : "An interesting study in June this year out of Obstetrics and Gynecology- found that mortality rates are halved by waiting until at least 39 weeks rather than 37 weeks to give birth. Other data have shown that full-term babies — those born at 39 weeks or later — feed better, weigh more and have fewer vision and hearing complications. And imaging has revealed that the brains of babies born after 39 weeks are larger than those of younger infants." I think this is good data to support waiting for spontaneous labor (or planning a section/induction after 39 weeks if possible).
Obviously necessary medical inductions ( that are truly needed) are a totally different story. My friends recent twin c-section was planned out of convenience for the doctor at 37.5 weeks...Had they waited till 39 weeks the babies may have had fewer initial complications. ok off of my
now hehe:)

Re: Inducing Labor may increase risk of autism
I was induced 10 days after my due date. It was necessary in my case. What can you do. Hopefully the baby will be healthy going forward.
