Does the pattern/frequency of BH contractions matter?

I've been getting BH contractions literally nonstop. In the last half hour alone I've gotten a TON. I know BH are 'practice' contractions ... but in a high frequency like this, does it mean anything? It just doesn't stop........

Did you drink enough water today? I had them the other day back to back and once I increased my water intake they stopped.

I'm just going to tell you what my doctor told me. She said if I have more than four noticeable ones in an hour to call. Better safe than sorry right?

Def drink some more water. You may just be a little dehydrated.

If they are constant and timeable they might just be the start of labor. I was having BH one night and timed them. They weren't a pattern though. It was 4 minutes and then 8 minutes and then 3 minutes and 11 minutes and so on. Lasted for about 2 hours and then stopped. My dr said they will be more like 6 minutes, 6 minutes, 6 minutes, 4 minutes, 4 minutes, and so on and so forth.

Good luck!

This.

And if they are coming regularly in intervals, then they are probably not BH, but actual contractions. Though for me, contractions did not feel anything like BH...because they became increasingly painful!

Call it in. You are having to many. This happened to me during my first pregnancy and I went in for monitoring. I was dehydrated but it could be something different. More than a few an hour is cause for alarm.

I thought I was having BH contractions, they were so frequent I called the doctor and they had me come for monitoring. I was 38 weeks - turns out they were not BH and I was 6cm dilated. I would call, sometimes you don't know you're in active labor!

Re: Does the pattern/frequency of BH contractions matter?

Thanks everyone, I ended up falling asleep soon after I posted and I have an OB appt in about an hour so we'll see. I have a feeling he will just say I need to drink more- although honestly nothing would truly surprise me. I'm not feeling as much BH this morning, so whatever was going on last night settled down. My poor dh, I think I have him so on edge over here! Chat Icon We'll see! I can't believe he will be here so soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon This whole pregnancy I made benchmarks for when I may stop worrying and when it will sink in and feel real. I'm 38+ weeks, have a 90% completed nursery, and a hospital bag ready to go ...... and yet it has not sunken in yet.

I'm glad you have your hospital bag packed! Chat Icon

My doc just told me today, when the contractions get so bad that it stops me in my tracks and I have a problem talking/breathing through them....then start timing. He said once they are 5 min apart for about an hour or so then go to the hospital.

Obv if your water breaks first then contractions or not, call the doc and go to the hospital.

I definitely had a pick up in frequency of BHs in the last week and a half before the baby came.

Re: Does the pattern/frequency of BH contractions matter?

I would say I had pretty constant BH's from 36 weeks till delivery at 41 weeks during my awake hours of the day. If I moved around/exercised I had them, ate I had them, at work (I have a very physical job) I had them but was too busy to really notice lol. I worked up until my due date which I think helped keep me so busy I didn't have time to sit at home and pay attention to my body. I just kept thinking the baby had to be coming soon since I was 3+ cm dialated from 37 weeks on , but nope, still had about 1 whole month to go till he wanted to make his appearance. I think some of us just get lots of practice for the real thing. Don't worry you will KNOW the difference lol. Remember the average gestation for a first time mom is 41 weeks 3 days! ( I had to keep reminding myself of this when my supposed due date came and went)

Seriously?? That sounds crazy!!! I was on preterm labor drugs because of issues at 22wks so when I came off it I just figured i'd be a sure thing Chat Icon Eh not really.

Thanks everyone Chat Icon Nothing too exciting to report- Well. Baby and I are fine so in MY eyes, that's always exciting and noteworthy Chat Icon (especially on this day, exactly 3 years from when we lost my baby when I was 171/2 weeks, its a sure reminder that even uneventful appts are events in themselves! Chat Icon ) Anyway getting back to my point- Nothing new besides rotten old cervical polyps. I'm not even dilated. Chat Icon Chat Icon Oh well....... I KNEW once I packed my hospital bag I'd be starring at it for a while.. And yet- if I didn't pack a bag, I'm sure I'd be in labor already. Isn't that always how it goes?

Re: Does the pattern/frequency of BH contractions matter?

hahaha, of course. The same thing happened to my friend with twins and my neigbor! Both had modified bedrest from 22 weeks on , then one was eventually induced (I guess they induce twin pregnancy's a little earlier) at 39 weeks, and the other went into labor on her own a little over 40 weeks. Go figure. I can't wait to hear the update that you have had your LO!!
