Sam?
Do you think its weird to name a baby Sam, not short for anything?
I like the name, DH does too but he feels it needs to formally be Samuel or something, which I am not crazy about.

Re: Sam?
It's all personal choice. My daughter's name is Lucy and everyone asks if it is short for Lucille. I wasn't thrilled with the name Lucille.
I like short names, so I think Sam is fine. Is he going to have a middle name?

Re: Sam?
I would say go for it. I know a Jon (not short for Jonathan.... Just "Jon") and a Steve that is not short for Steven.
I know Steve's mom said it was annoying to always explain that Steve wasn't short for anything, so as long as you don't mind having to explain over and over it's just "Sam" I think it would be fine.

Re: Sam?
That is my nephews name and my brother and SIL struggled with the same thing. He is Samuel on his birth certificate but in school and everywhere else it is Sam. They didn't think Sam could stand alone like Max(their other son) can. I disagree. I think it is fine to name him Sam if that is what you like JMO

Re: Sam?
In my honest opinion, I like Samuel. Sam is a nickname so I think many people will assume he is Samuel anyway, and then he'll constantly have to say that it's just Sam.
I could never name DC a name without a nickname, BUT I think that all nicknames should have a full name. KWIM?

Re: Sam?
Nope I actually prefer the "shorter" name. I actually personally find it more strange to name you kid one thing on a birth certificate than call them by a nick name/different name. (Even though my parents did this with my brother). I haven't settled on a name yet but whatever it is will be what I call him. Jax is a top contender for me and I refuse to put jaxon/Jackson on the birth certificate when my plan is to call him jax.

Re: Sam?
Go for it! My son's name is Nate. Not short for Nathan or Nathaniel. Just Nate.

Re: Sam?
Not weird at all. DD's name is traditionally a nickname for a longer name, but I didn't like the longer version so that's not her name, it's just the "nickname".
