Small Frequent Feedings

DS is 3.5 months and is mostly FF. He will basically only eat 2 oz at a time max. It doesn't matter if i stretch him to 4 hours or 2 hours he will only eat 2 oz. So I have been feeding him every 2 hours in order to get food in him. The only time he will eat more is when he is sleeping. It just seems so strange to me. Last night he ate 4 ounces at 2:30 because he was sleeping from his nap but then would only eat 1 oz at 5:30 and 1 oz at 7. He wakes up 2-3 times at night and will eat 4 oz. Anyone else experience this?

I took him to the dr and he is gaining weight. I am going back for a re-check on Monday but it just seems that the older he gets the less he is eating. He starts screaming after the 2 ounces and will push the bottle out with his tongue. I asked about reflux but dr said he didn't have any other symptoms. It is very stressful every feeding. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

My initial thought was def reflux because my dd did that not that extreme but she would drink 3 oz every 2 oz when she was an infant. Has he been doig this since he was born? The fact that hes screaming makes ne think reflux. Why not just try zantac and see if it helps?

Does he have any digestion issues? My dd also had milk intolerance so i also changed her formula to alimentum. I had a brand new baby. She still drank smaller oz than other babies her age but she started to stretch to 3-4 hours and she slept better at night.

Thanks for your response. He was BF from birth and would get a bottle of formula at night. When he was around 2 months he would drink 5 oz from that bottle. It seems like once I started weaning him and he started getting more formula he started eating less. He is a very gassy baby. Always making loud very smelly farts lol. He is on similac sensitive right now and I tried to give him gentlease and he wouldn't drink it. I just don't understand why he will only eat when sleeping. Everything I google seems to point to reflux but he doesn't spit up. I going to push the issue at the dr on Monday.

Google 'silent' reflux or do a search on LIF for more info. You don't have to spit up to have reflux. The formula can stay down, but the stomach acid rises up into the throat. All babies have a degree of reflux because their digestive system is immature and the sphincters are weakened. It's just a problem if they are spitting up so much that they are not gaining weight or if the acid is rising up, making them uncomfortable.
