My scary afternoon

2 weeks ago I had a mamo done, at the time I did not know I was pg. fast forward to today, I had to have a breast sono done as a follow up to the mamo. Fortunately everything is fine! But when I told them that I am pg and was just under 4w at the time of the mamo, the doctor was telling me that the have to call in a physicist to measure the level of radiation, etc and that there is a geneticist in Nassau I can contact if the radiation levels come back high, blah, blah, blah. And then he asks me if I would consider terminating the pregnancy!. I nearly lost it. The nurse called me a little while ago to tell me that they spoke with the physicist and zero radiation is passed to the fetus. Thank God! The nurse was very nice on the phone, she said she wanted me to know ASAP so I could enjoy my weekend. When I called my doc to tell him what happened he could not believe what the radiology doc said about terminating.
Boy o boy! It never ends over here.

Re: My scary afternoon

OMG!!!! How insensitive!!!!!!! I'm so glad that nurse call you and you can enjoy the reassurance. Ugh I don't get people sometimes- especially people in a helping profession who seem to strive to make people upset!

My scary afternoon

*crashing*

That was completly rude and totally insensitive! ! I had xrays of my lower back done when I was 3-4 weeks PG with DD2. So the radiation was shot right at her! When I found out I was PG and spoke to my PCP, OBGYN and the back surgeon they all agreed that it was very unlikely that anything was wrong. They all reassured me that it was an all or nothing deal and if something were to be wrong my body would miscarry.

Fast forward a bit over a year and I have a happy and healthy 6mo old DD.

Good luck and have a happy and healthy pregnancy!!
