Wantagh Park?

My MIL informed me that the weekend of July 4th she is going to be doing a party for my FIL and we need to do DS's birthday party a different weekend. I would be ok with just doing a combined party except this will be his first birthday (and yes I am aware it's a year away, I guess she wanted to call gibs SUPER early) so I would like to keep this one just to himself. PLUS, the party for my FIL is for his 60th, retirement, and my ILs 40th anniversary, so to add something else on top of that I would rather not do to DS.

Being that he's a summer baby I would like to do a BBQ type thing but we don't own a house, my parents just sold theirs and live in an apt, and my ILs have cats so my family can't go into the house due to allergies so if it rains we are SOL or to go to the bathroom, etc.

My MIL mentioned Wantagh Park has a kiddie pool and we can do the party there. My questions are:

Do I need to book this like now because it books quickly or do I have awhile?
Do they have a cover incase it rains or do I need to have a rain date? I was thinking Lido because they have the mushrooms bc of this reason.
Can you have alcohol?
Any other information would be helpful.

TIA!!!

Wantagh Park?

Wantagh has a picnic area with covered area I think and a whole pool complex area. They are at opposite ends of the park so its not like you can just walk a few feet from one to the other.

Not sure you would be able to "rent" the pool area.

I don't have any other info but I would just call the park office. or their website...its a Nassau county park.

Thanks Alli! I am just looking to rent the picnic area and be able to use the pool area if anyone wants to. I will call next week.

Thanks again!

Re: Wantagh Park?

You have to get a leisure pass to rent the picnic area. if it is over a certain amount of people you have to use their caterer and tent and table rental company. Call and ask them. There is a lot of rules.

Wantagh's pool is pretty far from the picnic areas (you'd have to drive) and your guests would all need a leisure pass to get in to the pool or else they pay $25 per adult and I think it's something like $17 per kid without it! (With the pass it's $7 for adults and I think $4 for kids over 4).

What about looking at Eisenhower? It's far more shaded so you can escape the sun on a hot day and also has an amazing kid playground and sprinkler park.

These p laces require a permit which you can get in Jan beginning of year. It's costly around 150- or so. You also need to be a resident

Above is correct. You can use the open areas if you are under a certain number of people. You have to rent space if you are over a certain number (not too pricey unless you add alcohol permit). There are rules on catering. I think for rental use of the biggest areas - I can't remember. I had the area close to the pools way in the back for a cub scout event and we didn't need to use their cater. You need to have a leisure pass to reserve/rent space. The pool is totally separate. Not sure if they do a deal for that.
