Cost of childbirth education classes
For those who don't mind sharing, how much are you paying for the main childbirth education courses? The place my doc recommends will end up costing over $700 for childbirth prep, CPR and infant care/BFing. My hospital also offers classes and I have yet to get their prices but I'm a little surprised at how expensive it is. I'm in manhattan, which could be part of the problem.

we are taking childbirth, lamaze and hospital tour all in a one day session at NS manhasset and it costs $185. we then get a breastfeeding class free after

I think at S. Nassau it's $300 for the childbirth class. CPR is seperate.

whoa seems like a lot. I'm delivering at LIJ and it runs 190 per couple (have the sheet in front of me) which includes prep for child birth class, baby care (basic), tour of L&D and Breast Feeding class.

yea they do seem to be a lot more than I would have anticipated!! For those taking those classes- how far along are you when you started?

That's the information I got from LIJ as well.
$700 seems like wayyyy to much to me.

I took Bradley birth classes which were super awesome and totally prepared me for delivery in terns of what to expect. It was a course of 6 classes for I think $200 or so. This was in 2011. I highly recommend Bradley if you are looking for a natural, med free delivery. It helped me have a vaginal delivery and avoid a section.

DH & I just took ours. We decided to take the class offered at my OB's office. We had orig. Looked into the one's offered at nslij but they were like 8 hours for a one day class! The one in the office was 4 hours, $150 and super informative but didn't feel too much, if you know what I mean. We realllly liked it! We got a certificate for taking the class and some information packets. We did the tour at the hospital a couple of weeks ago and that was good too. $700 is a lot.

I'm hoping the cost is so high because this is like a private, birth education place. Hopefully the hospital classes are more reasonable!

Winthrop charges $175 for the childbirth class and $80 per couple ($50 per person) for the infant care class.
