Using dresser as changing table

DH and I were looking around in BRU and noticed that many of the furniture sets dont have changing tables. Instead, they're showing the dresser AS the changing table. How does this work? wouldn't it slip off? Do any of you have this as the changing table? It makes me nervous because I feel like theres no safety net....Any input on this? TIAChat Icon

Re: Using dresser as changing table

We bought an ikea dresser and a separate summer infant changing pad at bru. When we unpacked the changing pad, there was a way to fasten the pad to the back of the table so it doesn't fall off. Then there's another pair of straps that went around baby when changing. Hope that helps!

Using dresser as changing table

Crashing - when I was with my sister from the time of infancy (there's 15 years between us and I raised her) my dad and stepmom didn't have much $$ so we just used their bed with a changing mat underneath (or towel).

I use the dresser as a changing table. There are wood pieces that go around the top on three sides that help hold the pad in place and it can be attached to the back of the dresser as well. There is a strap that goes around the baby as well. It works well for us and provides more storage.

I feel much better! The way the one with our set is displayed has no straps or barriers so I was iffy! Thanks ladies :)

Re: Using dresser as changing table

I used a dresser as a changing area.
I put the changing pad on top of the dresser, strapped the changing pad to the wall (they come with safety straps) and never had an issue.
You just never leave the baby out of arms reach when they are on there- regardless if it's a dresser or an actual changing table-and it will be fine.

Re: Using dresser as changing table

We used the dresser the rubber part of the changing pad sticks to the dresser so it doesn't slide. Also you always have your hands on the baby when they are on the changing table.

We use the dresser as a changing table. The changing pad has a strap you can attach to the back of the dresser, but even without it we never have an issue with it sliding off.

I use the dresser and the pad just sits on top. I never fastened it to the dresser and never clipped my ds in. He has never ever come close to falling off. The only way I see it happening is if I walked away.

Agreed--and then they can use the dresser as they grow up, when a changing table would beocome useless!

We use the dresser as a changing table. It's totally fine and the right height. The only thing is we got the hutch which was a good thought for the extra shelves but it gets in the way a lot. So don't get the hutch but you're totally ok with the dresser.

Re: Using dresser as changing table

Silly me, didn't think the changing pad came with straps hehe. Maybe we will just stick with the dresser as I agree the changing table becomes useless!

I use the dresser as our changing table. You buy the pad and it can be attached to the back of the furniture so it doesn't slip off. Many people don't attach it, but it's much safer if you do. It takes about 5 minutes to attach it and is super easy!

I use DD's dresser as a changing table. We just have the changing pad and used rubber no slip shelf liner under it and it works fine. The changing pad doesn't move at all.

Changing table was pointless to me. I too used the dresser. I didn't use the straps to hold down the changing pad but instead put a non-slip shelf liner underneath. Never had an issue.
