Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

It is. I did find it very interesting but.. ugh....

It is crazy though how the woman who gave birth in the bathtub seemed so chill and was just hanging around after having the baby lol. Or the one at the birthing center who was still standing up moving around minutes after having the baby.

Crazy....

The whole spiral effect of giving drugs to counteract other drugs they gave you happened to my friend...

She was given pitocin (to start contractions)
then the eipidural too early (contractions stopped)
needed more pitocin (start contractions)
needed another epi (contractions stopped)

....was in labor for 30 hours.

I think i'm going to try and go as long as possible before asking for the epi. And stay home as long as possible...

This!
That epi was sweet relief from heaven.
And just so you know, with me, it didn't slow things down a bit. They sat me upright in the bed after I got it and within a few hours I was ready to push.
And the whole time I was progressing from 4 cm to 10 cm- I felt not a contraction!
Made for a very pleasant labor!

ETA: After getting my water broken before getting the epi and feeling those contractions after it...next time I will be walking in introducing myself with my middle name as epidural!

yes it's very interesting to see the patterns that medications cause. Again, for some women is easier than others its all about your tolerance and your choices. You are going to be fine!!!! Chat Icon

This shouldn't even matter. If you're using an OB and you don't want Pitocin, just tell them. They can't force you to do anything.

I used a regular OB, let them know my wishes for no interventions, and they respected them.

Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

I saw the video too. Didn't change my mind to go with an OB and deliver in a hospital. So much can go wrong I wanted medical staff there. The epi was a life saver. I had an easy breezy delivery and plan to be in a hospital next time around too.

Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

I saw it a while ago, it just reinforced what I already wanted.

We will be delivering with a midwife at a hospital. For me it is the best of both worlds. And, as this is my first, I have never been in labor before, so I have no idea how much I can take. I want the option of the epi and the backup, just in case things don't go as planned.

I just watched it Chat Icon

I had no idea how different child birth is compared to other countries!! The amount of C-sections and nb deaths Chat Icon

I was very lucky with my first. I heard pic thrown around and I told DH NO!! I had GD with DD and I will probably have it again. If I'm being monitored and baby is ok I see no reason to be induced. I might even labor at home as long as possible this time around but who knows. I hate pain and will need that epi Chat Icon

Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

I had EVERY intention of going natural, laboring at home as long as possible etc, etc. DD decided she was never coming out and I never went into labor! Chat Icon 8 days passed my due date I went in for an NST and they saw my water was low (looking back, it may have been a slow leak I didn't notice), and they told me to go to the hospital that night to be induced. I was upset, but w/ my water being low, and being so late, I wasn't going to argue. I still planned to go natural, move around during labor, etc. Well, the induction didn't even kick in for 12+ hours and then labor hit me full force, my contractions were quick and powerful. But I still wasn't dilating. Then DD had a dip in heart rate(almost had a crash c-section at that moment) but it recovered but then they forced me to stay in bed. Shortly after I caved, got all the drugs, slept another 12 hours, never dilated passed 6cm... DD never dropped low enough, and I wound up with a c-section, 10 days passed my due date! DD had low blood sugar(prob from the entire ordeal of being in induced labor for 24 hours and not ring able to eat/drink, and I spiked a fever right before the c-section (prob bc I was dehydrated) so DD had to go to the NICU. I had a PERFECT pregnancy, zero complications, not even swollen ankles up until this point.

Guess what, this time around I'm scheduling that c-section and not even thinking twice about attempting a Vbac!! I often wonder what would have happened to me or Dd if we lived in another time. Woman have been giving birth naturally for centuries, but woman/infants have also died in childbirth for centuries... I never went into labor, and my due date was accurate, DD was ready to come out! My ordeal changed my entire perspective on modern birth techniques.

My advice is just to keep an open mind! I was not at all prepared for the possibility of a csection and was really bummed about it even though I had a great recovery. If you can go naturally, than you totally should and you rock!!! But if you can't, be thankful for the Drs and hospitals who want to make sure your baby makes it out safely!

Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

Had no intention of going natural with my first pregnancy- well I ended up going from 5cm to 10 cm in 30 minutes and I couldn't get an epi. I was in pain about an hour and then it was all over. I would live that same experience again. Also asking about the birthing tub as soon as I get to lij

Re: Watched the business of being born last night...

I did both... Epidural and pitocin with first... Totally natural. (Accidental home birth if you will) with my second.. To be honest, there is nothing like an epidural in the hight of the pain... But there is nothing's like the high of doing it without any drugs... And I felt a million times better after my second than my first... I have all the intentions to do this 3rd one au natural but I have a feeling I may cave if I have the chance... But my labors were both extremely quick...
