Does anyone else's DD hate princesses?

I know this seems silly to bring up, but my almost 5 year old DD hates princesses and anything girly. She is in love with power rangers and super heroes. She hates dresses, dolls, and anything frilly. She likes to play with cars. We are planning a trip to Disney and I had *my* heart set on a character meal at Cinderella's Royal Table. I showed her a you tube video and she said she rather go to a Pirate meal with Jake and dress up like Izzy. I love that she is so versatile but I am sad that I don't have a girly girl. Between, my boy, my sister's 2 boys, and my brother's 4 boys, she is the only girl in the family. Don't get me wrong, she is one cool, cool kid but I am just wondering if any other princess loving, tutu hopeful moms are in the same boat as I am?

Re: Does anyone else's DD hate princesses?

I have twin 3 yr old dds right now one loves Minnie but the other loves Sully from monsters Inc. she calls him the big blue guy and takes her stuffed animal of him everywhere, it has become her new favorite, we were in a store buying clothes and she picked out a boys shirt with a shark on it!
I think it's good that they are not just following the girls trend and are being themselves, honestly I think it's better they don't get all caught up on the princess hype

My DD is like that - but probably even moreso since she'd want to dress up as Jake, not Izzy. Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone else's DD hate princesses?

She doesn't hate them as much as I do! lol.
However she is more into Jake, Gabba and Monsters than girly things. We took her this weekend to pick out new bedding (something more girly than her Gabba set) and she went straight for Monsters Inc. I showed her Doc McStuffins, Minnie, ladybugs etc, but she wanted the Monsters. Made me (secretly) so proud! Chat Icon

Now younger DD....I think she's going to be my girly girl and she's only 14 months old! Chat Icon Chat Icon

My 6.5 yo DD has never liked Princesses, Barbies, baby dolls, etc. She loves animals, dinosaurs and dragons. She hasn't found any girl friends that enjoy the same things so that makes it tough. She plays a lot with the boys on the school playground and only plays with the girls when they are not doing girly things. While I love that she's her own person, I just worry about acceptance with the other girls. We have the sometimes you have to play those things for a little while conversation before play dates. Fortunately, she'll still wear dresses and secretly loves the compliments she gets when she's dolled up. She just won't do it without a fight. Chat Icon

BTW, we didn't do a Princess meal at Disney but she did totally love meeting them at the character spots around the park. Collecting autographs and photos helped her get into it. My DD does like Merida so thank Disney for the addition of a stubborn, rough around the edges Princess!

I do have a 4mo old girl and I'm secretly hoping she'll play with the baby dolls we have and maybe want an American Girl.

We should get our girls together! Chat Icon Though, mine won't wear a dress unless totally forced to do so! (she understands that there are special occasions where dresses are the appropriate attire)

I also have a LO (9 mos) who I also hope will be on the girlier side! (though I am a TOTAL non-girly girl myself)

Does anyone else's DD hate princesses?

I think it comes in phases.

AJ was totally anti girly at first (my dreams come true) then all of a sudden it was tutus, wings and sparkle everywhere! Oh and please.. if its not PINK don’t bother showing it to her. She grew out of that and is a pirate gal, loves Marvel heroes, plays with army men and wants to be a “super hero” when she grows up. She is all about the cape, trains, planes and automobiles. I just go with her flow.

Currently she’s ‘in-between’ again. LOVES princesses (she just really got into them in the past year or so).

Our first trip to Disney was for Halloween and she dressed up as Ms Captain America (so I could put a skirt and sparkles on her) and just HAD to have her shield (Something she still loves). She didn’t care about any of the princesses but wanted to meet Alladin and Jasmine because Jasmine was ‘strong’ and always says ‘don’t lie to me’. She doesn’t wear dresses you can trip on (her reasoning). She about flipped when the guy mentioned that they are called “AJ” for Alladin & Jasmine, just like her name.

We pushed Tinkerbell as she’s a GREAT in between character. Tinker gal with a hammer who wears a skirt. No problem getting her hands dirty, seems to always be able to solve issues and is often underestimated. Sadly I believe AJ has grown out of her too.

I encourage her to do all the stuff the boys can do if she wants to do it. But I was a tom boy myself. I am one of only 3 girls in my whole family. Still, I am girly in the inside. haha

This year’s visit to Disney and she can name EVERY princess and their movie as well as tell you what happens in their movie. Then again.. she won’t watch ANY Disney princess movie but will demand Spiderman, Avengers or Captain America on the DVD. Haha.

Oh and she wants Turbo already on DVD!

My DD also likes Merida! I know what you mean about playing with other girls. Although she does play so nicely with them, she enjoys her time more with the boys.

I do this in all then stores, but she chooses all things that are super heroes, especially Power Rangers!

My niece is this way too. All she wants is to be like her 2 older brothers. She recently turned 6 and all she wanted for her b-day was basketball jerseys.
