Clothes given at shower - What do I need? (BTDT moms too)
So I just had my shower this past Saturday and of course we were given a bunch of clothes.
Question, specifically for BTDT mom's, what should I get more of and what can I afford to return? (ETA, at my 30w was measuring 4.6. Next growth sono is in 2 weeks at 36w. I'm due early Sept).

It really all depends on the size of the baby. my friend had a 5lb baby so she worn newborn clothing for a while but my dd was 8.5 so she outgrew it quickly. So i would wait until the baby is born but if you feel you must do returns now i would return the newborn onsies. Maybe keep one or two of your favorites but depending on the size of the baby you may not get much use of them or they will grow out of them quick. It was my experience that people brought clothing as gifts when they came to see the baby for the first time. In terms of everything else I would keep it if you like it and if the seasons seem to work out

It's hard to tell since they grow so fast. No telling what your baby will fit at the time of birth which would determine what you will start out in. One of my friends had a 10lb13oz baby at birth so NB wasn't an option. My youngest was 5lbs10oz so NB was a must.

Return shirts and hoodies. Unless the hoodie is more of a thin jacket type of thing. Newborns and infants sleep so frequently and your not going to put them down to sleep in a hooded shirt/sweat shirt. Shirts aren't that practical because the ride up you usually use onsies. You can use a sweat shirt/sweater over a onsie in the winter for warmth. Also i return anything with buttons and collars or anything stuff/uncomfy (jeans jacket).
Sleep & plays/feetie pajamas are great for any age/size. They are especially great for newborns because you don't have to put them over their heads.
Sleep gowns are great, one size fits all or 3 months is better than newborn. It's so nice not having to fiddle with snaps or zippers in the middle of the night.
Newborn clothes with cuffs on the sleeve are great. They always seem to scratch their face when their hands are exposed.
Swaddle me's, Miracle blankets (swaddle) and sleep sacks are good to keep.
I found that lots of clothes I got at my shower were completely the wrong season. My DD was 75% for height/weight (May bday) started wearing 12 month clothes in December. Most of her 12 month clothes were spring/summer attire. I guess people thought 12 months would be around her 1st bday.

You're going to get more when the baby's born as well. I had a pack of short sleeve and long sleeve onesies from NB-1os and have used all of them. Except the 18mos long sleeves. At least 2 sleep n plays/day. Few swaddles I loved gowns. So super easy.

If you have an average size baby, you probably don't need so much of the newborn sized clothing. DS fit into NB clothing for about a month, but I only really had 3 month clothing. It was a tiny bit big, but they outgrow clothing so quickly I didn't think it was worth investing in so much NB clothing.

I liked having a lot of newborn onesies because my son was always spitting up at random times. He did live in the footed pj's because they cover everything and great for cold days.

For me I had DS in onesies pjs. They were the most comfortable and the easiest to deal with as far as changing.
I used newborn on DS for the first 2 weeks - I only had 5 pieces in that size. After that he was in 0-3 - 3 months.
I made piles of each size than went through the biggest piles (which was 3 and 6 months) and returned things from there and filled up the 9 months and 12 month piles.

It's really hard to tell. Dd was 5.5 and she was in premie clothes. These only fit her for a couple of weeks, then she was in newborn. She didn't fit into the 3m clothes for awhile

I kept all the clothes I got but don't remove tags from everything My thought is I would rather not have to do laundry every day so the more clothes the better
