Anyone recently dormer?
We are getting some estimates, and they are ALL over the place. 1 company quoted us over $100,000 for a rear dormer with a doghouse window, another company quoted us $65,000 for a FULL dormer, over the entire house. The rear dormer would be 2 bedrooms, the full would be 3 or 4. We have a cape.
Any information is appreciated as I cannot help but feel that someone is making a LOT of money, or else thinks we are dumb.

Someone at work is doing a full dormer on an investment house and gutted the entire downstairs and it is costing her about $110,000.
The house is in New Hyde Park.

Both my cousins and my SIL just did Full Dormers on their homes. My cousin had them do the shell only - it was costing them around 80K (that price includes a front porch along the entire front of their house that cost 15K) They had a regular cape.
My SIL did a full dormer - with everything done on the inside and that cost 102K. SIL had a Levit Cape

My cousins used "Shells Only" and my SIL used a really popular company - but the name is slipping from my mind right now - and it's going to drive me crazy. 
ETA: Sierra was the one who did SIL's dormer.

I was going to call shells only when DH and I are ready... Were they happy with there work - Would you have before and afters you can share - I want to add the porch to my ranch home...

I don't have any advice, but can I ask what you get with the shell only? Do you have to do the drywall yourself? electricity? etc

I don't have any pics - but the work was unebelievable. They had an original cape - so you walked up the stairs to the bathroom - and then the bedrooms were to the right and the left.
They now have three HUGE bedrooms up there - the master bedroom has a walk in closet that is the size of another bedroom. They also have two full baths now.
My cousin is a fireman so he knows alot of guys who were able to do the sidework. You have to bring in someone for every little thing. The insulation, the electricity, the plumbing, flooring, painting, etc. I think they spent about 20K in that stuff. In the end - I honestly don't see a difference in price being that they brought in their own people - just alot of extra headaches IMO.
