Closest airport to Outerbanks?
We're going to Corolla, NC in August, driving with friends. I have to be @ work before they leave so I'm thinking of either a flight back or train. What's the closest airport? And if I decide to take a train, which is it? Thanks

my parents have a vacation house in the outer banks. the closest airport is Norfolk, VA... its probably a 2.5/ 3 hour drive from Corolla.

I know!! that's why the traffic going down to the OBX on check in/check out days (Saturdays and sundays) is CRAZY!!! people pretty much have to drive down because the airport is far away. and by the time you go to the airport, security, all that... it takes almost as long to just drive the whole way.
we just went with my whole family, and my cousins that lives in florida flew because she only stayed part of the week... my aunt and uncle spent a lot of time driving to pick her up and take her back.
how early do you have to leave? Maybe you and your DH could drive down yourselves and then leave early together...

We're actually carpooling down there with friends in their minivan but they are staying through Saturday but I have to be at work Friday. I was going to have Dh take me to the airport but that would be a whole day of driving for him. Are there car rental places in Corolla I can rent a car to drive myself to the airport? So I don't inconvenience anyone

actually... I just checked. google is saying Norfolk is a little less than 2 hours from corolla. my parents house is on hatteras island, and I keep forgetting how spread out it is down there  so maybe thats not QUITE as bad for him to drive you??
I don't think there are any car rental places in corolla, but i'm not 100% sure...
