anyone take any daycare tours yet?
I'm due Nov 8, looking for part time day care. I'm wondering if I'm behind and need to call the daycare center I'm looking into asap.

Re: anyone take any daycare tours yet?
I'm actually going to Tutor Time tonight. I called and got the rates which are reasonable (as far as daycare goes!). So I figured I'd start there and then I have a few on my list to call to get the process going. BTW we have the same due date

I don't think you are behind but I would maybe start calling around and getting it to see them if you can

i would call - it depends on the area. by me (in queens) some daycares have a year long wait list, while others have 3-4 months and others have none. cant hurt to call and ask

I didn't take any tours until DS was born (and I was on maternity leave). I thought it was especially important to see how they reacted to him.
But you could still call to get a sense of the basics (pricing, etc...) and the waiting list issue.

I was thinking about this...I would rather do the tour and bring the LO there because it's all different. Plus I'll have a better sense of what my LO needs (if she's cranky during the day, or like to be swaddled, etc) and I can get a sense of things.
If that's the case, do you not "book" daycare until after LO is born? Or can you put your name down and then withdraw or something?

maybe call a couple near you and get a sense of what their waiting list looks like. Like a pp mentioned, some areas have long waiting lists for infant care. Some don't.
Also, when I did my deposit for my 1st it was relatively inexpensive- like $100? to hold the spot- so if you are unsure you can always hold the spot and bring your LO back with you to decide between 2 if you need to.

Re: anyone take any daycare tours yet?
you're not behind in starting your search. the only risk you run by waiting until the baby is born is that the facility you like the best may not have availability. this happened to a friend of mine and she was disappointed she had to "settle" based on who could take her baby rather than get her number one choice.
every day care is different though. I went to one where I would be on a waiting list if I wanted my LO to start in march (I'm due dec 1) so it did create more of a sense of urgency. but choosing daycare is a super personal choice. I say start calling a few to get a feel for what they offer and if it's even worth your time for a tour.
we ended up putting a $100 deposit down at the daycare DH and I liked the best. it made me feel better to know we secured our spot. one less thing to worry about later.
