we might have to tear out our kitchen gaaah!
we've had a leak in our bathroom ceiling downstairs for about a week now (and the water has traveled down the ceiling into a storage closet ceiling that now needs to be replastered etc, joy). we thought it was a leak in our ac, since a neighbor just had that happen and we thought the leak was starting in the closet and traveling to the bathroom, not the other way around. ac guy came, nada.
a plumber came, cut a hole in our bathroom ceiling (which would have had to be done to repair/replace at this point anyway). he checked under the sink, and a pipe was dripping so we figured that it was just slowly dripping down through a crevice in the under sink cabinet. he takes the pipe off (which basically crumbled in his hands), and replaces it.
BUT THE LEAK IS STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!! so it is likely in a supply line somewhere, which means we likely have to pull out cabinets. he can't go in from the bathroom underneath because there is steel in between floods (our building is a warehouse converted to condos). and, of course, once cabinets have to come out, it means that the kitchen likely has to come with it. we are going to see if he can just cut away the back of the under sink cabinet and go in through there, but it's not so likely.
and of course, we were NOT planning on redoing our kitchen right now. my husband said that our insurance should cover a lot if it. but, then we risk them dropping us, right?

Eh, I don't know.
We made a claim from Sandy and they didn't drop us.
(State Farm).
Depending on how much it will cost though, it may be worth it to not submit a claim.
We are planning to upgrade our whole kitchen and since DH is planning to do it all himself, we are looking to do it for around $10K.
I don't want a lot of cabinets though because I feel like they collect too much junk.

Yeah, if it only a little more than our deductible ($1k) it might not be worth submitting... we don't need new appliances so that will cut down on cost. But we would have to hire people to do the work so that will jack up the cost, too :(

Also maybe you can find similar cabinets or put something else in that area to reduce cost even more if you don't want to do a whole kitchen makeover.

Yeah I thought of that but it would seriously bother me to "almost" get it right, you know? I want to redo the kitchen eventually (it will need it at some point in the next couple years) so I also don't know if it makes sense to do something makeshift. I just wish it could be done on our schedule with planning!
