pedicure in 1st trimester?

Is it ok if the place is well ventilated? Also if they give foot massages is that ok? My toes are in desperate need but I don't want to get one if in any way it will hurt my little beans!! Thanks!

Re: pedicure in 1st trimester?

I got one when I was 5 weeks....I just didn't turn on the back massager. My bean is a-ok, but maybe double check with your dr!

some people believe it can cause a miscarriage if you get a foot rub or a massage

I think that's what the OP was asking.
Not to be gross but I know of someone who got a bad infection in their toe while getting a pedicure and i definitely would not want that to happen to me while pregnant.

Later on in pregnancy the massaging of the feet in certain points can induce labor, etc.

I think the massage part is the part people worry about...I read something about certain acupressure points being harmful. And maybe the fumes? But I just avoided the back massage and went for it.

I think you aren't supposed to go for massages in the 1st trimester for the same reason.

Its so easy and natural to get obsessed with doing everything right! This is my first pregnancy too! I have to take a deep breath every now and again and realize that its impossible. I was so paranoid when my organic bug stick (waxy citronella stuff) was making more bugs bite me, and I had to grab some Off in order to stay sane. It gets a little better each week! :D

Re: pedicure in 1st trimester?

I'd tell them to avoid your ankles.
It's not likely to cause a problem but a pedicure is exactly what I was doing the day before I went to the dr to find out I was in preterm labor. Do I think that's what caused it? Who knows..... But they say there are pressure points in that area so why chance it? I'd still get the pedicure, just let them know to avoid that area when massaging.

Congrats!!! When I found out we had twins at first I was in such shock!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was the same way! (And still am!). I asked my high risk and she said a pedi is fine as long as they aren't doing anything that got scrape or cut you (for risk of infection).

While DH and I were away last week, I got my first prenatal massage and it was heaven. The therapist explained that there is a point around the ankle bones that's a pressure point to stimulate the uterus, so she was staying away from there

pedicure in 1st trimester?

I got (and will continue to get) pedicures but just made sure they didn't go crazy with the massage.
