Bug Spray that really works - need help

Need some help. My DD is 2 1/2 and gets a very bad reaction to mosquito bites. It becomes bright red and swells to a huge bump. Last time she got 3 bites on her arm and her entire arm swelled to 3 times the normal size. I put ice on iit for days and gave her a bit of Benadryl and used cream.

The problem is we live in NJ and her daycare is near woods. I have tried a bunch of bug sprays including ones with Deet. I am not happy but the doctor said it would be okay as long as it was under 12%.

Can you recommend something that might work?

My dd has the same problem. They actually swell s much the skin will crack and bleed and they scare her. Ive tried every spray, organic ones, natural ones, Avon, off. I find nothing really works that well. I've been doing the clip on with off. I guess it's helped a bit she only has 3 bites of I didn't put them on she would be covered in bites.

Re: Bug Spray that really works - need help

My son is highly allergic to some bugs. He spikes a fever and he swells up. I haven't found anything that works but I use Claritin to help with the allergic reaction he has... He gets it anyway most of the season but I noticed that when he wasn't on it and he got a bite, the reaction was worse... Benadryl will probably help after even the Bebadryl cream on the bite will ease some of the discomfort...

We use the California Baby bug spray. We spend lots of time outside and DS doesn't have any bites.

I agree-- and I was so skeptical! It's probably the only thing I would re-order from there!

Beware- it does smell very strongly of citronella and wintergreen.

I use California Baby on ds. He did not get a single bite. I also sprayed myself with it and my legs feel like I have a thousand bites, I think cutting them off would be less painless at this point. Guess it only works on babies......

The only bug spray that really works is "deep woods off". It is 25% deet. They have products with less, but they don't work as well.

I took an ecology course where we would go to boggs to do work. The ecologists told us not to bother with anything with scents or the "unscented" as it actually attracts Mosquitos.

I would watch Mosquitos circle us, but with the off, it was like a force field.

I know it would be great if natural healthy products work... But from watching my classmates, they don't.

That being said, I don't spray my kids and we just deal. DS has about 10 bites, DD 5, me 15 now! We look like we have chicken pox!

We use purple prairie. It's natural and it works really well for all of us.

I use the deep woods off but spray their clothing, not skin. I also don't use it unless I'm feeling mosquitos. Maybe once every week or two.
