old bethpage
Does anyone know anything about this area? We live in Syosset and found a house we love in old bethpage. It's perfect size-wise with a great layout. I was planning to stay in Syosset or go to plainview but my realtor took me here. It's the same school district as plainview but I don't know anything about the area or the plainview old bethpage elementary and middle. She claims it's "more desirable" than most of plainview but I'm not so sure...we just want a colonial and there aren't too many in plainview or syosset. TIA! Feel free to private message me

Re: old bethpage
I always thought of plainview/old bethpage as the same town. Same school district, shopping, etc. I have friends and family who live there and when asked they will say they live in plainview. if you like the house go for it.

Re: old bethpage
Old Bethpage is more desirable than Plainview because it's smaller (only compasses a small area). Since it's such a small area there is typically way less inventory. Less inventory usually equals higher sale prices & more demands.
Look at redfin and punch in Old Bethpage. You will see more than HALF of the houses currently for sale in Old Bethpage are under contract. You don't see that in Plainview.
Besides that, I think Plainview and Old Bethpage are pretty much the same.
One thing to note parts of Old Bethpage go to Bethpage schools and not Plainview/OB.

Old Bethpage is such an amazing area. Be sure to buy in the POB district. It's a small town and hard to find a house in the area. It feels very suburban, which is nice. Plainview is great too, but busier and so much inventory on homes. Not sure why. We were looking in syosset, but OB was more appealing to us.

Re: old bethpage
I am curious why people prefer old bethpage to syosset. Is it financial? I imagine you get a bigger house and yard in old bethpage than syosset. If finances weren't in play, which town would you choose? I am curious because my husband wanted an overall fancier neighborhood than plainview, and I thought old bethpage would be good. He says he would rather be in syosset because it is further west, but I feel like it is too overpriced.

Syosset may be superior to Old Bethpage, although the taxes are higher and yes it's definitely more money. There is a lot more "main street" in Syosset vs. Old Bethpage so if you really want suburban Syosset that is not near the city it's probably big bucks. I would think Syosset is "busier".
Can't go wrong with either area though, Old Bethpage is probably the "better buy".

Syosset seems much busier , so many main/ busy roads with heavy traffic. It did not feel very suburban to me. Financially, not sure. I feel like all of these areas are over priced
The quiet areas in syosset are big $$$$, we weren't looking for a million dollar home
