Do you give out prizes at parties?

I was just at Party City and asked a mother if she gives out prizes to games when she throws kiddie parties. I am having a 1st birthday party for my daughter but the kids attending will be ages 3-11. Anyway, I decided to give out goodie bags to everyone at the end of the party . The mother I was talking to said she does not give out prizes when a certain child wins a game (like Pin the Tail on the Donkey) because she is afraid of fighting etc. She said something like, if everyone plays and behaves well there will be goody bags given at the end of the party. Anyone agree? What did you say when you did not give out separate prizes but goodie bags?

I have never been to a kids party where there are prizes and as I kid I don't think I would even expect a prize. I don't think you need to say anything.

been to both types.

One had pin the tail and musical chairs. Ironically i saw the parents more hyped than the kids on anticipation of a prize. Everyone got goodie bags at the end. One kid had a melt down at the muscial chairs because he refused to 'lose'. It was sad to watch. The parents let him because 'we never let him lose' which sort of ruined it for the other kids. AJ could care less and rooted for everyone.

I've been to those who didn't do prizes and as long as it was big 'WHOOHOOO' for winning then it wasn't a big deal at all. Everyone got a bag anyway. No annoucement was made. It was just 'lets play this game, ok' and they did.

I had no prizes or games at her party. They had plenty with the playground, pinata and bouncy house.

I have done prizes in the past without issue with my son's friends. But did prizes at our last party for my daughter, and the kids that didn't get one on the first game were crying (five and six year olds) So I just gave them each a prize after that game, and that was the end of it. I won't do prizes again. Way too much drama!
