Affordable all inclusive vacation for family "reunion"
Not tech a reunion, but trying to find an affordable place for different families to get together. Some families have adult children, some teenagers, and some children 2-8. Thanks!
ETA: Somewhere tropical!

Beaches Resorts have "Family Reunion" packages when you book at least 5 rooms that are great for families with varying age ranges. They have a great promotion going on right now too, for groups if you book 6 rooms you can get the 7th room free for travel in 2014.
There are other promotions as well right now including up to 65% off!

Re: Affordable all inclusive vacation for family "reunion"
Dominican Republic has a lot of all inclusive resorts that are affordable. Majestic, Dreams, Bavero, Club Med come to mind. This island seems much cheaper than other islands and many of the resorts are all inclusive for the same price as other islands for just the room. Beautiful pools and pristine beaches.

Is a cruise out of the question? I know several people who did them for family reunions.

The food was pretty good. I'm not usually a fan of AI because I like to go and try restaurants on the island, but not really an option on DR. There's one big main buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch that was nothing exceptional, but not bad (plus they have pizza, burgers etc all day by the beach and pool). For dinner there are several options that were pretty good - I think the Italian and Seafood one were the ones I liked the best. (some of them have dress codes that they do strictly enforce - saw serveral families being turned away because the men had on shorts etc). Of the few AI resorts I've been to, overall, I'd say this one had the best food.

Can I ask what makes you nervous? I might be able to talk you through it. The key I'd to find the right cruise that fits YOU. Once you do 99% of people I talk to love it. But the key is choosing the right one. The ones I know who didn't like it didn't bc it wasn't the right fit. Some tried a second on the right ship/line for them and loved it.
If motion is a concern my mom gets horrible motion sickness as does my DH. Both have done cruises and love them. In fact my mom has gone one 2-3 a year for many years. Dh was very nervous his first but turned out to love them as well and has now done 5.

I think its just being stuck on water for a few days...I just feel like what if I need to get back home for some reason....it kind of makes me feel helpless and stranded in a sense???

What kind of reason? There are always the stops at the ports that if there was an emergency, you could get off and fly back home.

That's very true...I never gave that much thought...how long are you usually at sea without being near land?

Club Med Sandpiper -- in Florida, so flights are much more affordable. Plenty of activities for all the kids/teens.

See this is what is key about picking the right ship/line/itinerary. Based on what you are saying you want a port intensive cruise. That would be in a 7 day cruise you would want to pick something that has no more than 1-2 sea days. Honestly most ships are like huge floating resorts with tons of things to do. If you pick the right one for your taste you can find anything from spas, adult pools, rock walls, slides, shows (broadway/vegas types) comedians, bars, goid demos wine tasting, gyms, talks about various hobbies or destinations, etc. There are usually multiple activities so if you pick a ship and line that appeals to you then you won't be bored. You could forget you are at sea. OR you can hide and relax and just enjoy some peace and quiet. You can have the best of both worlds too. That is why researching to match your personal tastes are important. You really don't feel trapped at all. Now having said that if you are looking to not feel like you are at sea I would pick a cruise with a lot of sea days. Those are best for someone looking for real relaxing time. I think sometimes people think cruises are small but they really are quite large and you can forget where you are.
The plus is you can go to.a different place everyday. You can get off and just walk around or book an excursion and see whatever interests you.
I personally prefer eastern carb and southern carb over western carb...but again you should see what you like.
