Poop accidents all of a sudden

DS has been potty trained fully for almost a year now. Every once in a blue moon he would have a random accident. No biggie. It happens.

Well, recently he started having accidents only with poop more consistently. It seems like almost like he is afraid to go sometimes. I wonder if maybe he had a period of slight constipation or gas and it had hurt.

So, what do I do? I feel like we are going backwards and at 3yr, 7 month old kid whose been consistently going to the potty should know better. I will admit that at first we may have been giving it more attention then we should have and that extra attention may reinforce it. Now I am having him "work for" something by going potty (this week its a trip to friendlys). Should I be worried? Am I doing the right thing and can I correct my mistake (giving the sring of accidents he was having too much attention)?

Is he distracted when he does it? DS would have accidents if he was distracted with a show or absorbed with play.

Sometimes change in routine, being sick (especially diarrhea) can cause a child to revert a little.... Or a big change.... New baby, death in family....
