BTDT Breast feeding moms
I was just reading a thread on the Parenting board about bf. How long does pumping usually take or minimum you would need to pump if you are bf at work. I'm sure everyone is different but just wondering how much time and how often I can expect to pump when I go back to work after baby. Thanks = )

I opted to pump at the same times dd was due to eat. In the beginning it was every 3 hours so I pumped at 930, 1230 and 330. More recently she eats every 4 hours so I pump twice a day. I pump for 15-20 minutes - but then there is set up and clean up time so it's about. 25-30 minute process. I don't have a great supply which is why I pump so much. If I only pumped once a day I would cover 1 and a half of dd feedings and I prefer to give her as much bm as I can

Generally speakin, when you are separated from your baby you should pump whenever or as frequently as she eats. It can take 10-40 minutes per session, average is 20. My kids eat 2-3x a day in the 10 hours I'm away from thembut I pump 3x.

I pump 2x a day (when I get up & late afternoon) and get apprx 8-10 oz each time & it takes abt 20 min. So daily I invest 40 min & get apprx 20oz. My baby is only 2.5 weeks old.

I am sooooo jealous! I pump 3 times a day for 20 minutes each time and only get 2 oz if I'm luck each time

How old is your baby? Do you nurse at all? I think that may help you make more..(for me nursing & pumping is diff) even if they dont get much as first it may stimulate milk production (fed baby pumped milk if they dont get enough)
I applaud you for sticking to it. BF is not as easy as it seems & I wld prob close shop if I was only able to squeeze out 6oz a day. Dont give up.your doing a great thing for your child. :)

I have a double pump and a bit of a low supply, so I pump approx when DD eats, 830am, 1145am and 3pm, for 40-45 min each time (not including set up and clean up) and I'm lucky if I get 4oz each time. Luckily, I can pump at my desk, or else I would never have been able to EBF this long. If I had to leave my desk, there's no way I could pump for almost 3 hrs a day, I would've gotten fired by now.

Re: BTDT Breast feeding moms
I only pumped and my daughter is 100% breast milk. I used to pump 6x a day until she was about three months now only 5 times at 30ms each. I pump 2 times at work. I have everything I need for one pump session in a ziplock bag so set up and clean up are about two minutes. I use a hands free bra with a double pump. I have a freezer and fridge filled with breastmilk. Make sure you drink a ton of water and eat small meals/snacks throughout the day and your milk should stay steady when you go back to work....as soon as I don't have enough water or food I don't get as much milk. Ziplocks have become my nw best friend for food and pumping! I thought it would suck pumping at work, but it helps me still feel connected to her. Whenever I pump at home I feed her at the same time so i don't miss anytime at home with her which helps a lot. Good luck feel free to fm with any questions. I was super nervous about the whole thing before I went back, but I have to say its been great so far.
PS. I have a fridge and freezer filled with extra milk...and growing. Going to buy a freezer soon to keep up with the supply

Re: BTDT Breast feeding moms
RIght now, I only nurse and bf for 5 min on one side. I get about 2 oz in that time when I pump. I am still not on a schedule with DD but when I am, I will find one time in a day she doesn't eat and hopefully pump both sides and for longer to get more. My mil keeps getting worried that she isn't getting enough but I guess she is a speed eater. lol
