question re: train tables and wooden train sets

I bought DS a kidkraft new metro train set for christmas. He loves it but I just recently realized that the one i got is different from what i had originally planned on buying. The other one i was originally looking at had a 2 level bridge which i thought was super cool.

I recently saw an imaginarium table that had a train station with lights and sounds. I've also seen more elaborate things like roundhouses for the trains to be housed in and buildings.

My question is...in order to give my son these more elaborate build options is it necessary to buy an entire new train set? or have you bought pieces and connected them to an existing set?

Also, If anyone has wooden brio / thomas / kidkraft compatible train items they are looking to sell for cheap please let me know.

Brio, Imaginarium and Thomas wooden ALL link together!! You can interchange all of their pieces and buy things like roundhouses from one brand and hook them up to a bridge of another brand, etc.

Imaginarium has a few great huge starter sets to expand and if you are ever going to get Thomas pieces, go to AC Moore with the 40% off coupon!

how do you organize all the different sets? his train set has a large trundle but want to make sure i keep each set together as we start "frankensteining" and adding different things. I was thinking of getting tupperware from the dollar store to store them and labeling...any other good storage ideas?
