Gymboree- Play and Learn Classes, what's the expectation?

DD is in the 28-36 month (level 6 class). Today we went for the first time but it was a little bit of a free -for- all. She did OK, and I think now that she knows the routine I think next time she will do better. It started with a story that many of the kids did not want to sit for (running around using all of the toys instead of listening) followed by an activity that went along with the story (cute). Then the kids got to practice hitting the ball off of the cone. I was trying to line up and get her to wait her turn, but there were kids cutting the line, pushing, with no redirection from the parent or the teacher. One kid had about 6 turns before she even had 1. Not a big deal, but it was hard to keep her engaged when there were quite a few kids off the chain LOL.

I am wondering if it was just a fluke? We have taken an art class with the same teacher and while I think she's great, she doesn't really lay down any guidelines or boundaries.

(I am a Kindergarten teacher, so I may be overthinking)

ETA: There were some parents who were super helpful, like when DD went over to the log and almost flipped over )

I used to be a Gymboree teacher years ago. I don't know what the expectation is now but back then we left discipline up to the parents. As a teacher I would outline the rules of the activity and shout out reminders if kids weren't behaving appropriately. But that was kind of the limit for what we could do. The gym classes are hard because there are soooo many distractions and it's hard to keep the kids focused. IMO, as long as DD had a good time then I wouldn't worry too much about it (and as long as everyone was being safe and not TOO wild).

THanks! I guess I was so nervous that she wasn't going to behave that maybe I was a little sensitive. And, we are coming into the class as the newcomers so whose to say she didn't lay down the rules in previous classes.

She definitely had a good time, and we will definitely be back, especially since this preggo cannot handle the heat outside

I have to say that would annoy me we stopped going to a gymnastics class for similar reasons I felt like there was no order and the instructor did not enforce any rules at minimum I expect them to reinforce every one gets a turn broke you get a second chance

Of course I think the parents should also be installing everyone gets a turn first but some parents only care about their child and not the group

I would give it another few classes but if its always like that I wouldn't continue

Depends on the teacher. We love ours.
All kids sit for story.
Teacher knows kids well and they take one turn each (he can't watch cutting in line).
He even remembers what my kid usually has for breakfast.
We also do a separation thing and that has worked beautifully!
Try to observe another 6 class with a different instructor and pick your teacher.
