How would you handle...
The other day I was at the Y while DS1 was getting swim lessons. DS2 was hanging out in the stroller on the side waiting with me. I brought a bunch of toys for him to play with to keep him occupied. There's another mom there who's DD swims so she also sits with her DS who's about the same age as my 2yr old. He had a Cars toy while my son was playing with a Team Umizoomi phone that is actually DS1's phone. He loves Team Umizoomi and just got it for his birthday. My son was tired of playing with it so I sat it on the bench. The other woman's son was taking interest in it. He was getting very restless and jumpy so I said he can play with it to keep him occupied. Of course he was running wild with it and getting close to the pool. Before I knew it he threw it in the pool so we had to go fish it out. She apologized and kept asking if it was working and I told her I don't think so. I said I can wait for it to dry and let her know next week. Well, it's broken now and I won't see her till next Monday's class. Do I just tell her to get a new one bc it's broken? I guess I'll see if she offers

I would wait and see if she mentions it.
That does stink though.

If she asks again, I would tell her it was broken. If she offers to pay, I'd suggest we split it.
If she doesn't ask, I wouldn't tell her. If I hand a toy to a 2 year old, I have to consider that it could be broken, lost, etc. so that loss is on me.

Unless she brings it up again I wouldn't even mention it.
If it were me I wouln't even ask her to pay for it even if she does bring it up. It's a chance I took handing it to him.
Thats just me though.

I'm pretty much the same way. I should've known too bc he was jumpy and running around like crazy. He just pretty much was all over it so I said he can have it.

I would just let it be. I would not expect her to pay me for it. Yes, her child threw it in, but he is a kid. It happens.

Re: How would you handle...
I agree. I have had some decently expensive things of my kids broken on accident, and I never took money, even when offered. I just felt like it wasn't right.
That being said, if my child broke something of someone's, I would replace it.

I have to agree with PP . I think it was SO nice of you to let him play with it, but I don't think I could ever ask for the money.
Is it an expensive toy?

Even though I wouldn't ask for money to replace it, I would still be a little annoyed - if you could have seen that coming his mother should have too.
Either way I wouldn't lend out any other toys to this kid.
