What kind of accounts did you set up for your little one?
We had her baptism and family was very generous. I am extremely thankful but I don't know what kind of account is best for her. We want her to be able to use it for a car, college and vacations when she is older.
Also,... What about college funds?

We have 529's set up for both my girls and savings accounts, but this year our accountant told us to ditch the 529! Her reason was when our kids go to college, they won't get a dime of financial aid if they have money in accounts! The way I see it, middle class doesn't get financial aid anyway, just loans, so I'm torn!

We set up a savings account for "her money"(gifts, piggy bank etc) and we set up a money market account where we put money into for college.
Looking into other investment accounts.

That's terrible advice! If you're in NY and are in the NY 529 you get a tax deduction. Plus to get need based aid they will look at your accounts as well-doesn't matter if its in the kids name or yours.

My dd has a regular savings acct (which I've been advised to transfer over to a Roth IRA not a 529) and my FIL adds money for her into mobile Exxon stock.

So far we have a CD and a savings account. It is in my daughter's name but eventually I will create two accounts for both of them. I plan on opening a 529 for each of them in the upcoming weeks.
