Update- traveling with refrigerated/frozen breast milk
I am leaving shortly for a business trip - wont be back until Saturday  Dd is almost 5 months and I would like to continue breast feeding so I've got my pump packed.
I'm wondering how long the breast milk will last in a cooler bag with ice packs? I guessing from the time to leave the hotel til the time I get back home will be about 5 hours. Will it last that long? Also would you freeze it to travel or keep it refrigerated? It's going to be kept in those small hotel refridgerators so I'm not sure how well it will freeze.
Any tips on how to make this work? I would hate to dump all the milk I pump but also don't want to chance the milk spoils and I give it to dd without knowing

Thanks for all the advice! I picked up some more I've packs and ziplock bags while I was away bc I decided I couldn't voluntarily dump my milk (I did dump why I pumped each day while working bc I didn't want to carry it around). But managed to get home with 76 ounces of breast milk! I kept all thw milk in the hotel feidge and the ice packs were kept in the hotel kitchen freezer. Airport security tested 4 of the bottles by placing them in some machine but never opening them and all the rest just went through without question. All the milk is home and now frozen and it still smells fresh. Thanks for the feedback - throwing some of that away would have sucked!

It will def be fine in a cooler with ice packs while you travel. I did that many times - ESP just a day out with the kids locally it lasts on ice for a long while.
And it last like 8 days in the fridge - and is probably easy to keep cold and liquid than frozen ESP when traveling - so I would prob just keep in fridge in the hotel and bring it home liquid and freeze it when I got home

I would not freeze it since it would be hard to keep it froozen BM can be refrigerated for 5-7 d
Airport security may look at it but you will be allowed to have more than 3 ozs
I have traveled with ice packs and BM some airports don't even look at it

Don't freeze it - keep it in the fridge. It can stay in the fridge for 6 days and can be kept in the cooler with an ice pack for 24 hours.

I haven't traveled with pumped milk, but here are the TSA's official guidelines
Looks like you should be good to carry the milk back with you. I might carry a printout of this page, just in case :)
Fresh milk can be stored in a cooler bag with ice for up to 24 hours, so you should be OK for traveling purposes.

I traveled with 20oz of BM and they didnt say anything...I called TSA before my trip adn they informed me that you are allowed to travel with a reasonable amount of milk so you should be fine...It can stay in a cooler for 24 hours with icepacks but make sure the ice packs are frozen solid. If they are melting or liquidy they may take it.

No that is the time you have to use thawed milk that is in fridge after coming out of the freezer

Yes it will be fine! Pack it well with ice packs and bring ziplock bags - u can fill them with ice at the airport to keep it extra cold.
Keep an eye on the hotel frig - sometimes they aren't that cold or you may need to turn the setting down a bit cooler.
My first trip with breastmilk was 20oz and I went 10 hours door to door and the mill was fine! You can always give it the ole sniff test! If to smells sour then dump it.

That I knew but my pediatrician said to only keep milk for up to 24-48 hours. I'll have to ask again. I could use more days!!
