i feel like i am a teenager again :(
the last few months my skin has been breaking out so badly! i battled acne for a while back in college and then it was gone after accutane almost 10 years ago and other skin treatments. my friend just recommended a tea tree oil (natural) soap and i just started using it yesterday. I hope this does the trick! I want to avoid the doc and harsh medications. What else can I do or should I avoid??

i feel like i am a teenager again :(
I battled acne through my teens and the only thing that helped me was medication and injections. Now that I'm older, I really didn't want to take daily trips to the dermatologist so I've tried basically every over the counter product in the world! My cousin works in a spa in California and she sent me some of the products she uses - they are amazing! My skin has never looked so good.
The line is called Arcona, they sell it in Nordstrom or you can order it on Amazon. It's a little pricey but so worth it!
I use:
Arcona Raspberry Clarifying Bar - twice a day
Arcona Cranberry Gommage Exfoliant - three times a week
Arcona Magic White Ice Hydrating Gel - every day as needed

i feel like i am a teenager again :(
Not OTC, but my Derm rx'd a pill called Doryx, which worked so well. I had some crazy acne that refused to clear up from pregnancy, and I took it for 3 mos. when I was done taking it, my skin was smooth and no scars at all. I had no side effects either.

have you changed anything diet wise?
Makeup, sunscreen?
Did you just begin an exeicise routine?
Before you start spending crazy money on products -
Try a simple bar of Dove soap, witch hazel, and Purpose or cetaphil moisturizer - just try it for a few days.
No exfoliating, no scrubs, no ....what is that thing called w/ the brush that moves? I have it and hate it -
just keep it simple, and drink a ton of water.
I took accutane in college too - my skin now, looks amazing - and my skin care costs about $10 total 
The more 'stuff' I use, or new products I try - I break out immediately.

tea tree won't do much
get 10% benzoyl peroxide (Terminator is a brand you can get in drug stores and walgreens)
Use 5% benzoyl peroxide face wash

thanks! the tea tree soap seems to be working pretty well. I'm seeing a slight difference.

Im sorry you are going through this.
I would see a dermatologist as they can recommend what is best for your skin type -- and at our age you may not want to use harsh benzol peroxide as it could cause wrinkles (sigggghhh)
Im also confused about accutane. I thought if you took that you are set for life! What a b i t ch!!!

Nope. I required 3 full treatments (through derm) and 1 therapeutic treatment (through primary md). My only regret is that my previous derms weren't aggressive enough about my acne from the beginning and I ended up with scarring & pitting. Otherwise no regrets treatment wise.

I like the Alpha Hydrox line (available at Ulta):
Foaming Face Wash (pretty gentle)
10% Glycolic Acid Oil-Free
14% Glycolic Acid Wipes
I also use a face wash with Triclosan (anti-bacterial) in it if I start getting breakouts. I use Noxzema Triple Clean Face Wash.
I'm not a fan of any products with Salicylic Acid in it and Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying on my skin.
