WWYD- love provider, but not hospital
So I am having a bit of a dilemma. I love my midwife, I've had two of my other kids with her. However, she delivers out of Nassau Medical Center. All I hear are horror stories about that hospital, from the birth to the postpartum units. It has made me extremely uneasy and doubtful about using her, since I don't feel comfortable in that hospital.
I could always switch back to my old Dr who delivers @ NSUH, or Dr. Bashian, who I've hear is supportive of natural birth and delivers @ LIJ.
So WWYD, would you continue with the provider you love and hope for the best w/the hospital, or switch to a provider who uses a hospital you'd feel comfortable in?

While that hospital is generally a disaster area, I have heard good things about their L&D unit. I would ask her to take you on a tour, meet some of the nurses there, and then decide.
If you anticipate this being an easy birth, you can also plan to leave "early" and spend less time there.
Having a midwife is something I would not easily give up, best of luck to you

I personally need to be 100% comfortable with my DR and my hospital. I would switch...I just wouldn't want to chance it. I am using a midwife who delivers at Stony Brook.

I think I might go and meet with the two other doctors and see if I like them enough to switch.

I would switch. personally it would make me really uncomfortable to be delivering in a hospital that had such nightmare reviews

WWYD- love provider, but not hospital
My BFF delivered there this past December. Security was non existent!! I walked right in to the maternity ward and found her room myself! There was no one to ask. She also had no hot water in her shower and had to shower in the triage area. Luckily she had a private room but that too was pretty gross. Oh and the tv only showed 1 channel. She did say she liked the labor room though.

I would have a hard time delivering in a hospital that I'm not totally comfortable in. Yes, you'd have your midwife but you'll have more interaction and direct care from the hospital staff.
That is a tough one. I would definitely take a tour and discuss your concerns with your midwife. This was years ago but when I had experience with that hospital it was pretty scary. There were some very rough patients there too. That said, I was never in the L&D/mother baby sections and my experience was 10 years ago. Definitely do your homework on this one.

If you are not comfortable then switch! One oft friends delivered there and loved it, but while visiting her I was walking past inmates in the hall way(Nassau County Jail sends their inmates there).
I use Dr Bashian and she is great!

I switched my OB because I did not want to go to the hospital he delivered in, so I would definitely switch. I never regretted it.
