Tell me all about Newport, RI
Dh and I usually try to go to cape cod for our anny, but someone suggested Newport to us and I have no clue what's there... Is it like cape cod? Would you recommend it?

I've never been to Cape Cod but went to Newport for our anniversary. We stayed slightly outside of town to save money on the hotel. We had gone in the fall so it wasn't very crowded.
We did the bus tour of the city when we first got there. Then we toured the mansions which were just breathtaking. We also did a portion of the walk along the cliffs as well.
We spent time walking around town shopping and to eat.
It's really a great little trip to take.

Tell me all about Newport, RI
I love Newport. Usually stay in a B& B within walking distance of the main town. The main strip has a lot of shops and restaurants (but can be pretty crowded during prime season). At night there are bars and a jazz/blues club. You can go out on a sail boat in the harbor (the sunset sail is beautiful). I've rented bikes and ridden all over (once you get away from The main strip, its not bad as far as traffic goes). The mansions are amazing. I've never really been to a beach there, so I don't know how that would compare to the Cape, and I haven't been to the Cape in years, but to me, the Cape is a real beach vacation and Newport is more of an active, "doing things" type of vacation.

Check out the Cliff Walk! We did the whole thing (more than an hour of strenuous walking/climbing!) its amazing. Not everyone does the whole walk, some just do the beginning to see some mansions.

Love Newport. In addition to what everyone else suggested, Newport Vineyard and Sakonnet Vineyards are great! Love Scales and Shells for dinner also.

Love the vineyards and he mansion tours. They also have Newport Storm? Brewery which was fun for DH. Good variety of restaurants. I'd definitely go back.
