Benjamin Moore or bust?
I know Benjamin Moore is supposed to be the best. I only ever painted my coop and we used Behr and 5 yrs later it still looks nice.
Of course for our new home we want it to look great but obviously would like to avoid spending the extra money for the same stuff...Do you think BM is really better? if so why? thanks
eta: I read in an old BM post that Home Depot will mix BM paint for less but isn't it the quality of the actual paint that is better not the color??

We painted our first home with different paint and it took 3-4 coats to look like 1-2 coats of BM. We are a strictly BM family - DH does all the painting and he said it winds up coming out to the same cost because you have to do so much more with non-BM paint!

Our painter definitely prefers BM - says it covers much better than others.

Re: Benjamin Moore or bust?
BM will allow you to apply less coats to obtain the desired color. So our home with just one coat already looked great. (Some people just do one coat). I know that was the preferred brand of our painter.

I have been a huge fan of Sherwin Williams after DH fully covered our eggplant purple accent wall with one coat of pale blue (I insisted he prime it first and he insisted he was not going to . They have good coupons too. It's the only brand I'll buy now.

I've used Behr paint from Home Depot, Benjamin Moore Aura, and also the valspar signature paint and primer in one from lowes. Not gonna lie, the valspar was just as good as Benjamin Moore and the only reason I can say this is because we messed something up and had to go back and redo a section and you couldn't even tell. It was seamless.
From now on I will go with valspar. The Behr paint and primer in one from Home Depot didn't cover as well as the valspar one, but I felt the valspar covered as well as the Benjamin Moore

We had a problem with BM a few years ago and when we called the company, they said it was a bad batch so we are not fans of BM. Love Sherwin Williams though and Glidden (we bought it at Home Depot).

We always use Behr and it covers great. We did Valsapr in our bathroom and it was horrible. DH was pulling his hair out trying to finish one tiny room. We will stick to Behr from now on. Either way, I wouldn't try the all in ones.

We used Sherwin Williams when we first moved in and it was great. We now have BM and I don't notice a difference (we renovated and the painter that the builder used preferred BM).

Every painter and contractor I've spoken to recommends BM. We're having our house painted right now and used BM for all of the walls and then used Valspar and Olympic for ceilings and trim just because it was easier to run and get. BM coverage is much better.
ETA: If you do choose to use a paint available at Lowes or Home Depot but want a BM color, they do have a program to color match. Something to keep in mind.

We usually use either Behr or Glidden from Home Depot and have been happy with both..although two rooms in our house are color matched to BM colors

Re: Benjamin Moore or bust?
we were told by our contractor to only use BM. It takes less paint (coats) so in the end can cost just as much.
And yes Home depot will mix the colors but it's not the same paint as BM.

Re: Benjamin Moore or bust?
I always thought so but recently tried the Home Depot Ultra something- I forget what it's called- it has the primer and paint in one. (Though we still use primer) It is excellent and every bit as good as BM My good friend is a professional painter and he said there is really no difference between the Home Depot premium line and BM. And it really saves you a ton of money. BM paint is ridiculously expensive.
