Sad-baby is breech again this time
Just want to vent a little. My first baby I ended up finding out he was breech at my almost 39 week appt. i was scheduled for a version 3 days later but my water broke that night and ended with a c section. Not what I wanted.
This time, we've been monitoring the baby every appointment since 20 weeks because his kidneys were slightly enlarged. He was head down around 28 weeks but since then, breech again.
I've tried some techniques (sporadically ) from spinning babies in hopes he'd turn. Every appointment till today they have told me if he hasn't turned by 37 weeks they'd try to turn him. Everyone has raved about how this one doctor at my practice is really good at it. I understand it can be painful, I understand it might not work, but I wanted to try because I soooooo wanted a VBAC.
Well, today, the doctor I saw came in and told me with a sigh that because I have had a CS they don't try for a version. WTH?! Every other doctor I have seen in my practice has put it on the table as a possibility. How could he tell me now I have no chance?! They have all been well aware of my situation. I told him this and he kind of looked at me like I was crazy but said he'd send a text to the other doctor. Of course the one who is good at versions is away on vacation till the 8th. I am still trying to be positive, but I am feeling a bit deflated.
If you got this far, thanks for reading. I will just be so disappointed.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Don't give up hope just yet, especially if you didn't speak to the doctor that you want to do the version anyway. His opinion is the one that matters most.
I will say that our baby was breech for awhile and I spoke to my sister about a version. She said they are EXTREMELY painful (she's an OB) and to ask for an epidural if we were to have one. If you aren't for getting drugs then nevermind but I wanted to relay the message.

Re: Sad-baby is breech again this time
I had a breech baby toward the end of a pregnancy and started going to a chiropractor certified in the Webster technique. It's supposed to help turn babies and it worked for me, she flipped head down after a few appointments!

Re: Sad-baby is breech again this time
I'm sorry you're going through this, but personally, I would not try the version. They only work about 50% of the time and there's no guarantee the baby would stay that way. But, even more importantly, there might be a reason our baby is breech.
My DS was breech and I was offered a version. I kept feeling him try to turn, but he'd get about halfway and come back to breech. So I decided that if my baby didn't turn, there must be a reason and I opted for a scheduled c-section. I wound up going into labor 4 days before my scheduled c, and had an emergency c-section.
It turns out that my son had the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around his neck 3 times. You can only see a cord wrapped around a baby's neck using a 3d ultrasound. Had I chosen to have the version and they would not have seen the cord wrapped, my son would not be here today. I am thankful every day for the decision I made to have the c-section.

Sorry you are going through this! Definitely try the webster technique and look into an acupuncturist, and keep up with spinning babies. I had a successful version @ 39 wks 6 days (he turned breech @ 39 wks!), and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the above posters said. Feel free to FM me if you have questions. Hope LO turns for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Sad-baby is breech again this time
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and input! Those who have tried the Webster technique - any chance you have a recommendation out in Eastern Suffolk? I had planned to look into this as well. Just don't know that there is anyone easyish to get to who can help.
I appreaciate the input on the version. I have heard that it can be painful, but also heard it can be not so bad as well. I did mention to one doctor about the concern for the umbilical cord (NYCGirl80 - I think I had read your story before ) but the doctor said they keep a very close eye on it and so I was pretty comfortable with his answers. And, supposedly this one doctor is wonderful at it...who knows??
anskiv - wow, he turned at 39 weeks TO breech?! Crazy kid! I'm glad you were able to get him to turn back! I may just have some questions for you after I talk to them next week! Thanks.
I keep wondering if I will be able to tell if he behaves and does turn. Since DS #1 never turned, I am thinking maybe this is just the way it will be, but I'm not giving up hope yet!
Thanks again!!

Re: Sad-baby is breech again this time
Def go see a chiropractor that specializes in Webster technique! I see my chiro every week for low back pain and sciatica but she specializes in seeing pregnant women and children. I know a few people who have avoided c-sections b/c they had the Webster technique done and I've heard its painless. Not sure if you live in Nassau or Suffolk but my chiro is in Nassau and I have a friend who is a chiro in Suffolk, so I could always give you their info. Good Luck!

I think there is a chiro on the boards here that does Webster-- Islip Chiropractic-- he/she has posted before on threads like this.
Once you talk to your dr, I would be happy to answer any ques about the version (which hopefully you won't need!). I was really satisfied that the drs did a great job of monitoring him and that no one was in any danger at all.
Also, I think that you will be able to tell when he turns (unless you are sleeping maybe?)... I know the exact time when my son turned-- I thought it was labor b/c it was uncomfortable and my belly kept going hard. In retrospect, I realized that it was him going breech. Argh. Also, I could tell that the way he was laying was different- I had thought his butt was sitting in a weird way, turns out it was his head. Again, in retrospect, I was like, "Aha!" lol.
ETA- My DS was pretty big- 9lbs 4oz at birth... No idea how there was room to turn twice!! lol!

You should definitely look into the Webster Technique. I am certified in it and I practice in Great Neck. Also, I am a LIF Vendor. I may be able to find someone closer to you if you would like. Here are some FAQ's about it. http://greatneckfamilywellness.com/webster-technique/ If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]
