Applying for mortgage - how many months worth of statements/pay stubs do they want?

Hopefully, we will be applying for a mortgage soon. I was just purging all of our files when I realized the mortgage bank may want copies of bank statements, pay stubs, etc. What is a typical request? Past 3 months? Past 6 months?

They usually want all the tax returns and w-2's from prior year and recent pay stubs.
I think they just asked for recent bank statements as well. I would keep a year just in case regarding the bank statements. You should be able to print them online anyway.

We had to give them 2 or 3 months for bank statements and a month or two of paystubs. You may need W-2's and/or tax returns as well.
Make copies of everything, we had to se send a few things after a while.

I believe it was 3 months, but I would save 6 months to a year. Only because you never know what they may want from you.

A month or two, when I bought my coop they wanted more, so it might depend, keep 6 months to be be safe

I just closed last week and had to provide:

Tax returns from 2011 and 2012
W2s from 2011 and 2012
Bank statements going back to March (so 3 months)
Paystubs from past month

I think it was 3 months.

Once we were in the process and waiting for the clear to close (this was a 3 month process) We had to give EVERY bank statement and every paycheck untill the day we closed.

So to start you will probably need three months of everything, then as you go (once a contract is accepted) then you will have to provide everything as it comes in untill the day you close.

We were warned that they wanted EVERY page of the bank statements. EVEN the ones that say "thi page intentionally left blank".

we needed 2 months for our re-finance. I'd think you'd be safe if you had 6 months. But you can usually get those on-line if you need them.
