Help with Mold
DH and I sure bought a doozey of a house it seems. We bought what we thought was a gorgeous, well kept, updated 1952 expanded ranch, and we've had nothing but problems the past 10 months of our 12 months of living in the house.
We've had basement water issues, and now we have a very expensive roof problem in addition to many spots of rotting wood on the outside due to water. (2 estimates, both around the 17K mark )
We just found a really bad problem over the weekend too. Black Mold. The previous owners built this tiny addition, or rather a house of sorts over the basement steps from the outside. So there is a door inside the basement, then cement steps and another door at the top of the stairs that goes to the backyard. We've really NEVER have used that entrance since we've been in the house. Well, this weekend, we happened to open that door to find black mold completely covering the wall!
To make matters worse, one of our bedroom windows over looks that area, and of course that window is right next to my side of the bed. I also haven't been feeling well alot lately - really bad headaches, sleepy all the time, and I'm afraid that it's the mold that's been making me feel this way. We don't know how long it's been there, but I have to think it's been a real long time because the wall is completely covered by it.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Are there special companies that clean this up? We also found a little bit of it in our upstairs bathroom (which we never use).
TIA!

Re: Help with Mold
You need to get a company in that specializes in mold removal. You can treat it with beach but that doesnt kill it.
Please get it done right away....mold can be very dangerous!

Agreed! I lived in an apt for a little over two years that was infested with mold. Needless to say I spent LOTS of money going to the doctor for unexplainible DAILY headaches, chronic bronchitis. MRIs, horrible meds...you name it. Turned out we discovered Mold and soon I went to an allergist. I'm very sensitive to it and avoid it at all costs. Oh...and I also developed Asthma from it and am on daily meds.
Michelle, definitely get this taken care of ASAP!

Re: Help with Mold
Thanks guys!
I know it's a very bad thing, and I was completely shocked when we opened that back door on Saturday!
I have to assume this had previously been a problem in this house and didn't just start when we moved in. It angers me that the previous owners have been so dishonest. Because I KNOW that mold was not there when we saw the house and when the inspector did his inspection. And based on everything else we've had to fix in this house, my best guess is that they just cleaned up the problem when they showed the house, but didn't fix it.
