We have a cat and a Dutch rabbit. This is our first pregnancy with pets(prior pregnancies no pets). Lately I've noticed my cat, Lucky, has been hanging out on top of the stuff we purchased for Chat Icon so far. For example if I come home with a BBB bag it's his new "bed". Now I am nervous to set up a bassinet or crib because he may take over.

Need advice

Our cats tried to jump in the crib all the time. We just kept the door closed mostly. They learned that they couldn't go in there.

They often sat on the changing pad though.

We keep the door closed to the nursery. Right now we have a garbage bag over the swing but the 1 time she tried to jump in it she got scared because it moved.

I was told if there is something you don't want your cat to touch to put tin foil in it. The cat will touch it once and HATE it and will never try again. I haven't tried it but if it gets bad I'm going to.

Our cat is just nosy and likes attention but when she is at my inlaws and they are babysitting our niece she leaves the baby alone and once the baby is out of the pack n play or anything else, THEN our cat jumps in.

Yea cats are going to do that- anything new they have to check it out and then "claim" it. I'm sure mine will do the same thing. We try to do the spray bottle thing- whenever the cats are ontop of something or in something they shouldnt be, we squirt them with water. I shake it first so they know it's coming and then spray them. Sometimes the shake is all they need and sometimes when they see me just grab the bottle they run. Once in a while they will still do it- thats how cats are. Also I would buy a new cat bed or something and give them a treat everytime they use it so they learn that 's where they are supposed to go. Its not as easy for them to get that concept as dogs, but they will learn eventually.

Re: Pet Owners

My Cat has a fetish with all the diapers we bought. He likes to sleep on top of them and recentley started using it as a scratching post!! We have all the baby stuff in our nursery. I once caught him sleeping in the pack and play..lol ( it was from when my niece was staying with us during the hurricane Sandy.) We keep the door closed and have the lock on the outside of the nursery. Since my cat knows how to open doors we lock it. Now he can't get in! Simple Fix!!! Chat Icon

Re: Pet Owners

Cats just love new things. I really think if you brought home an empty box that they stack your Chinese food in for take-out he would try to lay in that Chat Icon I had two cats growing up and anything new that entered the house they wanted to check out, lay on, sniff, and explore.

Like others said, you can keep the door closed and I'm sure once the baby comes and he gets a few sniffs in he will feel satisfied and go about his business :) As for the bunny - I had the same kind of bunny growing up! Chester! Chat Icon
