anyone ever drive to Michigan or have other longer road trip ideas?
I am trying to plan a trip for DH and me - no kids.
I have major wanderlust and wanted to get on a plane but it is SO expensive to fly anywhere. I almost booked a long weekend in Chicago (we don't have a lot of time) but took a step back and realized what we were spending per night and nixed it.
DH is very into baseball and likes to see all the ML stadiums. He/we have done everything in reasonable driving distance, including the Pittsburgh Pirates. I was thinking of driving to Detroit to see the Tigers. It says 10 hours on Google maps but that's without traffic.
Are we crazy? If not, any thoughts on stopping points? Any other ideas on longer road trips? We've done all the closer stuff (Boston, DC, Philly) and I'd like to really get away anyway.
TIA!

Always takes us fifteen hours, but we don't drive at night. It takes my sister about ten driving overnight. Our relatives live about forty five min from Detroit.
There are casinos in Detroit that are fun, so if you gamble that's another idea. Outside of that, there is honestly not much that I can think of in the Detroit area. If you drive much further up north in MI you can visit Pictured Rocks. Its looks absolutely gorgeous, but we have never been. Mackinac is nice also, but again, quite a drive. As for pit stops along the way, it's a longggg boring drive through PA. If you like theme parks, you could stop at Cedar Point in Ohio.
We don't travel there by car often just because it's such a long boring ride to me!

I don't remember how long it took me to drive but i drove out there once. the nice thing is you can come home through canada so you can change it up a litttle
Cedar point in ohio is lots of fun - it is amusement park you can also stop at cleveland for a game too
also you can go over to canada and stop at niagra falls

Re: anyone ever drive to Michigan or have other longer road trip ideas?
DH went to law school in MI. So I drove there and back when I moved there for a year. It is about 10-11 hours to Detroit with no stops or traffic bc I remember it was about 12hrs to our destination, which was about a little over an hour past detroit. It is a long drive and parts are kind of boring. I know people who broke up the drive by going to pittsburg, cleveland, and other places like cedar point, which is a huge amusement park like great adventure or hershey type place. We drove straight through and stopped for meals. We did not stay overnight nor did we drive through the night. We would leave around 5 am before the city traffic got bad.

I drove to Wisconsin for a concert...you could make a stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland to break thongs up. Other than that, its kind of a boring drive but its do-able.

I've driven to Cleveland once and i'll never do it again. I-80 is the worst (going through PA). Very very boring ride.
How long are you going for? 10 hr drive for just a short weekend is a lot of driving.

Basically the most I would want to go for would be 5-6 days.
I was thinking overnight in cleveland each way and 3 nights in Detroit.
But eh, it doesn't sound too appealing from the replies.
