Any camping people here?
My new obsession is camping. I want an RV or a pop up camper so bad! But before I go and invest in one, I would like to know more info being that I have never been camping on my own. We used to have a friend with a huge camper way upstate NY and he took care of the hookups and all that stuff.
Anyone have a pop up camper or go tent camping?
The KOA campground in Newburgh, NY looks amazing!
We need a campground where we can bring our dog too.
Thanks!

Re: Any camping people here?
We used to tent camp a lot growing up. I won't do it now because the bathroom situation makes it too difficult. Soo if you get a camper, get one with facilities if you have kids!
We camped in a cabin at Jellystone in Quarryville, PA last Summer. It was an amazing campground. We stayed in a cabin that had everything but a bathroom, and it was a pain in the butt. We had fun! But I won't go again unless we get a cabin with a bathroom and a shower.
Some amazing family friendly places I've found are: not sure about pets though
Normandy Lake in MA Jellystone (most of them look great!) Frontier Town near Ocean City MD

Re: Any camping people here?
DH and i both grew up camping. tent camping mostly. my family would go waaaay up north in Maine to baxter state park almost every summer. only outhouses, no real shower for like a week... definitely rough!! BUT i think its something every family should do at least once. the no electric, no wifi, etc really make you appreciate what you have at home, AND kind of forces you to bond with each other some of the best convesations i had with my parents were around the campfire! we also used to camp in disney, too... at their Fort Wilderness campground, which was fun! ferry to the magic kingdom
I couldn't do the tent camping thing for more than like a night now HAHA we usually go for one night every summer in PA with a group of friends. my parents have a HUGE RV and really like that. we've gone a few times with them, and its definitely the way to go!!
There is a comapny called Cruise America that rents different kinds of RVs and Pop-Ups. that migtt be woth looking into before you go and buy one. DH, me and DS are actually renting one for the first time next week.... I'll let ya know how it goes!!

Re: Any camping people here?
We never did tent camping growing up but about 5 years ago we bought an Camper and had it on a season site in the Poconos. We loved it. It was like having a vacation home at a fraction of the cost. – we had a pretty big place. 29 foot 5th wheel camper. We did travel to a few local campground in NY and PA and never made it too much else.
We fell in love with the area that we just bought a small cottage and are in the process of selling our Camper. We do plan on retiring during the summer to our cottage and then spend the winters on the road in a camper. This way we get to pick a different home every winter.
Can’t wait to grow old. LOL

We camp a lot. Mostly tent but cabins when we bring along people who are nervous to do tents.
For close by camping I suggest the sites in the Taconic ronegion, like Lake Tagkhanic, Rudd Pond, & Copake. Further away I like North-South Lake and Chenango. Check out ReserveAmerica.com
I have sons so as far as bathrooms go, #1 is a breeze. Most state sites (all the ones I listed) have facilities, some nicer than others. My kids will #2 in a travel potty if need be.
Jellystone is cool but not exactly the typical camping experience. Tons of toddler/kids activities.

Re: Any camping people here?
I grew up camping! started out with tents but my mom got a camper when we were young (although when she had guests she made the kids sleep in the tent outside lol) I loved it and still do. My mom still has a camper even though she moved away and we go visit her at her campground by the river (she's a seasonal and goes most weekends) We love visiting...they have activities for the kids, especially bc it is a good sam park and then there is fishing for the hubby and we all sit around fires, drinking, laughing and just having a good time. I absolutely love giving that experience to my son and having him be able to play outside ALL DAY. I hope in the future that DH and I can buy our own camper. He's totally into it now
we are actually considering staying at a campground when we go to sesame for 4th of july instead of a hotel. Renting a cabin is so much cheaper than a hotel and it allows us to extend our trip into a mini vacation.
the campground we went to as children was mt. Vista campground in PA...but we haven't been there in years and I'm sure there are plenty of better campgrounds. The campground my mom is a seasonal at is the yogi bear jellystone campground in VA and it is great for kids. They have several of the yogi bear jellystone ones all over.

Re: Any camping people here?
We camp and love it. We have a hybrid camper right now and I love it. We are thinking of upgrading to a bigger one in the next year or 2 because we are kind of outgrowing it with 3 kids. I love it because it has a bathroom and a shower/with tub for the kids and it was light enough for us to tow with our Pacifica. Now that we have a Suburban def looking to upgrade.
