cruise to alaska - what excursions?
One of the best things I have ever done (in life!) was the helicopter ride to the glacier and then dog sledding on the glacier. Its not cheap (and you don't get to dog sled for very long) but it was AMAZING! Friends of mine did a whale watching excursion while we were on the cruise and had whales come up really really close - I saw pics and that looked great too
ETA: The day we were originally supposed to do the dog sledding excursion it was too foggy/rainy for the helicopters (happens a lot), but we were able to re-schedule for a different day/port. Although I had to give up another excursion (I can't remember what), I am so glad that I did - definitely the best excursion ever!

Re: cruise to alaska - what excursions?
Alaska is an awesome trip. I want to do it again. In Skagway we took the train trip up the mountain. In Juneau we took a bus tour to the Mendenhal glacier, and then walked around the town afterwards. Saw bald eagles everywhere - they were waiting for the tide to go out so they could catch salmon. Ketchikan was cancelled and replaced with Victoria BC which was boring.
I would have liked to do more, but DH weighs too much for some of the activities.

Re: cruise to alaska - what excursions?
Walking on the glacier was amazing (drink the glacial water) We also went panning for gold I'm just not sure where My mom and I went to this little tea house/garden and had high tea...nice mother daughter bonding While doing that my brother and dad kayaked in a nature preserve and they liked it. Bike riding in Skagway
Advice use antibacterial as much a possible. My mom got the noro virus (sp?) and it kinda killed the last 2 days of the trip

Purell doesn't work on Norovirus, but soap and water does. We had it on our ship - but thankfully never got it. We always went back to our room to use the bathroom (never the public toilets) and always washed our hands with soap & water before eating. Purelled them also as we went into the dining rooms.

Re: cruise to alaska - what excursions?
Here's what we did, copied from an old post of mine:
Juneau--Helicopter with Guided Glacier Trek--Really cool views, amazing how quiet it is on the glacier, highly recommend.
Skagway--Ultimate Yukon with White Pass Railway--The bus ride to the Yukon was very scenic and we saw a lot of wildlife (bears, mountain goats, foxes). The stop at Carcross was kind-of boring, and it snowed really bad on the train ride down so we couldn't see anything. But I still would recommend as the tour guide was great (very funny) and the train would have been amazing if the weather held out.
Ketchikan--Misty Fjords by Boat--My favorite excursion. It was so beautiful and so different than the rest of Alaska (so green). We saw bald eagles and seals and tons of waterfalls.
Victoria--Victorian Highlights and Craigdarroch Castle--This was okay. Victoria is a pretty city at night, but the Highlights tour was just driving around residential neighborhoods, which wasn't that interesting (kinda like driving through Garden City, nothing that exciting). The Castle is nice, but you didn't need a tour guide to get you up there. Our bus driver didn't know how to drive stick and kept stalling.
