Converting to gas
If you converted recently can you please share what company you used and, if you don't mind, roughly what it cost?
We're considering converting & got an estimate yesterday from a company that National Grid recommends. It seems a little high ($6600) considering that we'd be using our current burner (they're able to convert it) & we already have gas in the house for the stove. We'd like to get a few more quotes to see if $6600 is a fair price. Thanks!

Converting to gas
We used Burner King to convert, earlier this year. We didn't have gas to the house, but it was in the street, so we didn't have to pay to have the lines brought over. I'm pretty sure we paid about $6K, including a new burner, but then it was an additional amount (I'm not sure, I think about another $1,000 - $1200) for the hot water heater.

What are they doing for that $6k? Just because you have gas for a stove doesn't mean they don't have to run a new line to the street. If the supply line into the house is too small to supply two+ devices at the same time, they may need to run a new line.

Get at least 2-3 more estimates. We did it n had gas in our home as well. We paid around 6000. We used cornetta brothers plumbing.. Excellent company

Just converted last month. We used Fox's Plumbing and I highly recommend them. After rebates, it was 7k out f pocket. That includes a new water heater.
As an aside, when companies are quoting you make sure the equipment, liners, etc.. are comparable. Frequently, they're not.
Fox was maybe a few hundred more, but he came very highly recommended and was a pleasure to deal with.

Ours cost around $6000 I believe, we did it when we first bought the house a few years ago so don't remember the exact number now..we got new equipment I do know

$5,500, actually a little more cause we changed from a water heater to a water storage tank last minute cause we could not fit only 40 gal heater and wanted atleast 50.
We used Burner King and were very happy with them
be careful with using a reco from national grid. my sister did that, the plumber said they relined chimney like they are supposed to, never did and my sister is lucky her and her family is alove. carbon monoxide as coming into the house...

Thank you all so much for the info & advice! We were planning on calling around for at least 2 more estimates, so we'll definitely give Burner King a call.
GoldenRod, they said that the line in the house needs to be replaced with a bigger one, but that the one to the house is fine. I don't have the estimate with me (I'm at work), but I know that it included lining the chimney, the conversion equipment, the piping in the house & labor. Oh yeah & there's a $500+ fee included for them to pump out the old oil & seal off the old tank for us...
