question about first OBGYN appts after BFP
I called my doc this morning to let them know that I got a BFP and to schedule an appt for whatever is needed.
They want me to come in next week to meet with the nurse practicioner to confirm that i am pregnant, and then from there, they will set up the next series of appts that include ultrasounds.
is this the normal step? do i need to really see the nurse to confirm it? i asked the secretary how they would do that - a blood test? she wasnt sure how it was done, but she didnt think it was ultrasound.
i'm excited, but i am also fine waiting a week or two longer for the ultrasound appt that counts and hopefully hear a heartbeat
just wondering what is the norm? based on an online calculator i am about 4w3d

They will probably check your BETA and if its over 1000 schedule your sonogram anywhere between 6-10 weeks(pending on the office). If its less they may have you repeat the BETA 48 hours later.

question about first OBGYN appts after BFP
My first appointment I took a pee test, scheduled to go get my bloodwork done, filled out a crapload of paperwork, and got some free stuff- prenatal vitamin samples, coupons, a baby planner/ calendar thing that I used for about 2 weeks haha and now have no clue what I did with it! And I got my list of dos and donts as far as foods, activities, medications, etc. This is a good time to ask any questions. And usually they will schedule the sonogram at this time too. The wait between the first appointment and your first sono will feel like an eternity!

Re: question about first OBGYN appts after BFP
just depends on the office. lots of them seem to bring people in early to confirm and then some dont have you come in til later.
I didn't go in until 8 weeks.
They'll probably take your full medical history then (or send you home with that paperwork) and take a urine sample, etc.

For the most part this is how my first appt went. I also had an internal sonogram done to confirm a heartbeat, size of baby, and to confirm there was only one in there. This was a 6 weeks. I was a little off schedule for awhile so my other appts were.. 10 weeks (heartbeat only) 12 weeks (NT sonogram) 14 weeks (hb) 16 weeks (hb) 20 weeks (anatomy scan) 20 week (hb) 24(hb) 28 (this is in 2 weeks and will probably be hb also

Re: question about first OBGYN appts after BFP
I called my office to tell them I got the BFP and they didn't question it at all. I even asked if I should go to my PCP in the meantime for testing and they said no. They set me up for a 2st appointment and apparently a sono at 7w (was going to be 6 but I'll be away during week 6..pray for me).
I kind of wish I could go in for a blood test and get pamphlets and goodies. I think I'd feel better with more info from a doctor (vs. online) and it might make it feel more real.
