Curling eyelashes after mascara application?

I once had someone tell me that her "trick" is to curl her eyelashes after mascara. I remembered that the other day, tried it, and they all clumped together. Chat Icon

Anyone do this? If so, am I not waiting long enough for it to dry? And how long do you hold the curler for?

Re: Curling eyelashes after mascara application?

I usually curl mine before applying mascara. If I do it after mascara, I give it some time to dry first then i try to curl them very close to my lid where there's less mascara. I remove the lash curler very slowly otherwise I end up losing lashes! Then I use a lash separator to separate the lashes that stick together. In my opinion, my lashes look much better if I curl them before applying mascara. I only curl them after applying mascara if they go straight during the mascara application and I'm re-curling.

before is less messy for me.
also, playing with the mascara brush -lightly leaving it in on the first stroke helps the curl factor. try youtubin mascara curler videos. so informative.

I remember someone on here said they hit the curler with the blow dryer for a quick second then curled their lashes, then use the mascara. It worked like a charm! Just wait a second or two before you use the lash curler. Haha.

Re: Curling eyelashes after mascara application?

I always apply one light layer of mascara and then curl and then a thicker layer of mascara. Always comes out best like that. Just make sure you let the mascara dry before curling otherwise it sticks and gets all messy

If I don't want to be bothered and got for a very natural look, no curling and just one layer of mascara

Re: Curling eyelashes after mascara application?

I've always done it this way. Curling before mascara does nothing for me. I apply mascara to both lashes and curl immediately..no drying and then add another layer of mascara. It's the only way my eyelashes look good. They do clump a little at first but I spread them out with the second coat.

ETA I actually count 20 seconds when I hold the curler on each sideChat Icon

I used to do this ALL the time. Then one day half my eyelashes came off with the wandChat Icon Apparently, it's really bad for the lashes. I stopped doing it after that happenedChat Icon

Wow, you ladies are so helpful! Thank you, I still learn something new about makeup all the time.

So do I, but I count to 30 on one side and 15 on the other because weirdly, one side keeps the curl and the other doesn't!

Re: Curling eyelashes after mascara application?

I always curl mine before. Some mascaras are better/worse in terms of holding the curl of the lashes. If the formula is too heavy or whatever, it will weigh down the lashes are there goes your curl.

I did this and it worked great! It was a little severe at first but after the second coat and it drying, they flattened out a little so now the curl looks natural. No eyelash loss either. Chat Icon

Thank you so much!

I do that, even though you really aren't supposed to, but just make sure the mascara is dry & make sure the curler is clean.
