Must haves for kitchen?
We will be remodeling our soon to be new home soon. The kitchen is not big but it is open. DH is doing most of the work so I want to put in all my must haves. So far I know I want:
-the pasta pot filler faucet above the stove
-pull outs in the cabinets and pantry
-a large built in spice rack (maybe on the back of a cabinet door?)
Anything else you love about a good/functional kitchen?

Soft closing cabinets.
These.
Walk in pantry if you have the space
A sponge drawer below the sink. Like this --
If you can't do a walk in pantry, then something like this
One of those touch faucets where you can just tap it and it turns on
An island with a sink.
Lots of counter space.
Maybe a section of counter made with butcher block.

Re: Must haves for kitchen?
I sponge drawer I actually didn't like. It broke because you really had to pull to get it open and then I didn't like that I was putting wet sponges on a metal surface.
Kitchen comes with soft close doors and draws now. Definitely sacrifice a cabinet for garbage. The minimum width I would get is 18" though. a 36" wide pots and pan draw. 1 bank of just draws. I think the cabinet for the veritcal sheet pans is only good if you have the room for that. If you need more cabinet space I wouldn't put that in. Do a lazy susan for the bottom of a corner cabinet and for the top to an L shape..no wasted space.
The best advice I can give you is look at the layout of the your kitchen. Just a basic drawing of where you have windows, the fridge, sink, dishwasher and stove. Think about what items you would want around those appliances and go from there. That is the easiest way to design it. I feel like designers are great for a basic layout but they do not live in your home, you do. For example, I my garbage cabinet to the right of my stove but the left of my sink. The cabinet above my dishwasher I kept all my glasses and plates. To the left of my stove I had the bank of drawers and that is where I kept all my utensils. I knew what I was putting in every cabinet when it was time to layout the cabinets. I had specifics. Also think about what you use the most. I have a kitchen aide mixer, I do not back once a week so for me, it would have been a waste to get the cabinet for the stand.

Soft close on both the drawers and the roll outs. Room for recycling and trash in pull outs.

Re: Must haves for kitchen?
More drawers than cabinets on lower cabinets.
If you have the room bump out one side of the cabinets so you have a deeper counter. I had to do that and it's wonderful... I can keep my coffeemaker and anything else I want out (nothing much) w/o sacrificing prep space.
Really think about how you are going to utilize your space. How much of a cook are you? Will you be doing basic meals? Are you into cooking? Baking? Do you want to host holiday dinners? It really isn't about space as much as layout and often times custom cabinetry, while $$$$ really pays for itself in the long run because you get so much more out of the space.
When I bought my house it had an avacado green double oven original to the house (1971... I swear). I never realized, after kids, how much I know love cooking and hosting, I seriously regret nixing the double oven and my FIL was a kitchen designer for 40 years who designed my kitchen redo. I still remember his face when I said no... I hate to admit it, he was right.

You can still get a double oven free-standing unit. The stove we just bought has a double oven. Even the small oven holds a huge amount of stuff, and the bigger oven is the same as a full-size single oven.

Lots of outlets. I did under the cabinet ones so that they didnt interrupt the backsplash
